GLAD YOU ASKED…You will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting I.T. infrastructure to meet the overall stability, reliability, and performance requirements of Pelmorex from an operational perspective. You will accomplish this primarily through process and product monitoring, documentation, and implementation via proper change management processes and operational procedures.This is a hybrid role. You are required to be onsite at our Oakville office a minimum of 2 days a week and as needed. You are also required to be on-call in rotation with other Systems Administrators to provide production support after business hoursWHAT’s THE DAY TO DAY LIKE?System & User Support * Implement, support, and monitor the assigned operating systems (Linux, and Windows are mandatory).

  • Conduct investigations of specific operational areas and analyze the performance of existing systems; generate improved designs of these systems; and run pilot implementations in the testing environment.
  • Participate in service capacity planning, demand forecasting, software performance evaluation, and system tuning.
  • Provide the development department with required information and support when required (performance metrics, bandwidth usage, etc.).
  • Your technical skills will be put to the test while you keep assigned systems and data transfer operational 24/7, support more than 500 servers, including virtual and cloud environments, and, monitor systems and products daily to ensure systems are performing as expected. This includes applications, system logs, and keeping performance metrics. Any irregularity should be investigated, resolved in a timely manner, and documented.

Strategy & Planning * You’ll take charge of planning and implementation of regular maintenance for assigned systems to minimize downtime. This includes patches, service packs, and hot-fixes as needed, as well as any required upgrades, and:

  • Adhere to established operation service level agreements in consultation with end users (BU) to establish problem resolution expectations and timeframes.
  • Collaborate with team members to determine the root cause of problems and best practices for efficient resolution.
  • Implement effective documentation, monitoring, disaster recovery (i.e., back-ups), user support systems and practices.
  • Provide knowledge transfer, coaching, and act as a mentor to other junior staff.
  • Assist the IT operation manager in capacity planning for all systems; perform regular snapshots of system performance.

Acquisition & Deployment * You’ll conduct research in support of help desk technology and communicate these findings to the Operations team with the objective of improving on system efficiency and lowering operational costs, and:

  • Install and configure server software and server based application packages in a physical and virtual VMware environment, including physical installations in the computer room.
  • Create and maintain where required: records of licenses documentation and media libraries, inventory records, etc.
  • Provide creative technical solutions with limited resources.
  • You’re a team player who will be there to participate in the on-call rotation as assigned (weeknights/weekends)

WE ARE HOPING YOU HAVE

  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or Engineering5+ years of related experience
  • Solid knowledge of Windows and Linux environments
  • Solid experience administering VMware environment.
  • Strong work experience with Cloud administration of AWS, GCP and Azure platforms
  • Good experience with writing scripts to automate operations, server management and auto scaling.
  • Good knowledge of automated Configuration Management tools such as CFEngine, Puppet, etc
  • Knowledge of web serving software, including Apache, IIS, NGINX, Varnish
  • Solid experience with scripting languages: Perl, Python, PowerShell, bash
  • Good knowledge of networking: routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, IDS, VPN, DNS, etc.
  • Experience with systems performance monitoring and alerting, knowledge of tools such as Grafana/ Prometheus , Pingdom.
  • Basic Networking experience and understanding of underlying principles such as TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting, etc.
  • Hands on experience working with development tools: git, Jenkins, Sonar and good understanding of pipeline framework.
  • Proven experience working with Continuous Delivery pipelines, including implementation of microservices, containers, and Kubernetes deployments.
