Job description
We are looking for a part-time Housekeeper within Property and Office Services at the House of Lords. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small team of Housekeepers on a permanent, part-time basis. This is an essential function, working to keep our UNESCO world heritage site clean and tidy, as well as getting the opportunity to work with historic items, from Pugin furniture to heritage furnishings. You will work in unique surroundings including the House of Lords Chamber and State Rooms on a daily basis.This is an opportunity to work onsite at Parliament working Monday to Friday, between 06.30-10.00am. This is a great position for someone who enjoys working as part of a team and can undertake hands-on cleaning efficiently, professionally, and flexibly.You’ll be accountable for –
- Attending a daily communication meeting at 6.30am with the team leaders.
- Regularly assisting in covering patches where the housekeeper is absent.
- Carrying out enhanced sanitising cleaning.
- Carrying out daily and periodic cleaning duties
- Undertaking additional duties within the team as required on State and ceremonial occasions.
- Other ad-hoc cleaning and office duties as required in support of Department of Facilities Business-as-usual requirements.

- Good standard of communication with ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Able to use initiative and work flexibly to complete tasks effectively.
- Ability to work well within a small team.
- Ability to consistently complete work to a high standard and possess a professional attitude, with focus on delivering high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Working knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices which can be applied to a heritage environment, including manual handling and practical hands-on cleaning experience.
It would be even better if you had or if you’re willing to learn…
- Working knowledge of Microsoft outlook. (sending and receiving emails)
- Existing/previous COSHH, Manual Handling Training, Health & safety, and Customer service training.
- Some knowledge of the workings and functions of the House of Lords.
