Position SummaryMagellan Aerospace Blackpool has an exciting opportunity for a Tooling Engineer.
- Full Time Permanent Contract
- 40 hours per week
- Monday – Thursday 7:30am – 4:30pm / Friday 7:30am – 1:30pm
- Job location: Blackpool Business Park, Amy Johnson Way, Blackpool, FY4 2RP
- Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.
- This role is governed by ITAR, restrictions may apply
To work directly with Production Management to set, control, report and manage tooling requirements of all the machines in the Production department and to explore options to improve tooling usage and overall cost savings in conjunction with tooling suppliers.Perks and Benefits

Essential Responsibilities
- To assemble the cutting tools with holders, balance the tool assembly and check the dimensions once the assembly is complete
- Responsible for the overall management of the tool crib area and tooling cabinets on site and to run the tool pre-setter machine
- To have direct interface with the Production team to ensure tools are built up in a timely manner in line with Engineering requirements in order to avoid any disruption to production
- Have an active participation in engineering development projects providing knowledge expertise where required
- Willing provide support and assistance to the introduction of any new parts to the business through the preparation and build up of the required tooling in advance reporting any issues found to the Engineering department
- Maintain good lines of communication with the Engineering department at all times ensuring any daily tooling issues are reported promptly and arranging for any document updates to be actioned where required
- To manage the tooling re-grind data with a view of seeking ways to reduce tooling cost/spend and to keep in line with budget assumptions
- Work directly with the Engineering department to standardise tooling across the site
- Contribute to a positive working environment providing support to others where required and maintaining a high standard of workmanship and productivity whilst being able to work with minimal supervision
- Actively support and contribute to the continuous improvement programme and lean manufacturing whilst continually reviewing working practices to remove and reduce waste and non-value adding activities
- To carry out and promote good housekeeping and maintenance of working environment including keeping shopfloor free of spills
- Work in a safe manner complying with all risk assessments and procedures in line with company Health and Safety policy, reporting and logging any Health & Safety incidents that occur ensuring team members adhere to Health & Safety policies at all times including the use of PPE
- To carry out any other reasonable duties as required by management in support of a changing business environment in order to achieve organisational requirements
Skills / Knowledge RequirementsAcademic:
- Good general education is essential
- Time served apprenticeship is desirable
Experience:Essential
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience
- Knowledge of multi-discipline engineering fundamentals
- Knowledge of multi-discipline engineering practices, processes and procedures
- An understanding of aerospace material and standard hardware
- Previous experience of different tooling types and uses
- Good knowledge of CNC machining
- Awareness of CNC machines and controls
- Tooling and fixture knowledge
Desirable
- Experience of working to budgets
