The posts are offered as fixed-term for 11 months to commence in July 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post holders will provide high quality teaching to undergraduate students within the School, and students from outside the School taking service courses.More information about the School can be found atWe are looking for enthusiastic academics with expertise in any area of mathematical sciences with a preference for candidates with experience teaching statistics. The successful candidates will deliver an excellent student experience through innovative teaching and assessment methods and will engage in scholarly activity.   • To take full responsibility as module leader for teaching specific courses as directed by the Head of School. This will include preparation of all materials, delivery of lectures and tutorials, and all assessment. The modules to be taught will be discussed with the Directors of Statistics and Applied Mathematics
  • To contribute to the teaching and assessment of other modules. This might include delivery of tutorials, supervision of group projects, and marking of assignments and examinations
  • To contribute to the School’s recruitment and outreach activities as directed by the Director of Education
  • As a full member of the School, to participate in relevant School Committees such as Board of Examiners

The PersonKnowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Ability and expertise to teach and assess a range of undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses autonomously, including large group and small group teaching and project supervision
  • Broad mathematical knowledge covering introductory courses in statistics and mathematics
  • Willingness to teach statistics and mathematics to students beyond the school through service teaching and contribute to the administration of the School
  • Proficiency with teaching support tools, including virtual learning environments
  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Contributing towards a positive, collegial workplace culture and promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills

Desirable

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to encourage the commitment of others
  • An interest in course development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Knowledge of statistics as covered in the statistics curriculum taught within the Newcastle mathematics and statistics programmes
  • Experience of university-level teaching

Qualifications

  • PhD (including soon to be completed) in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related subject

  • Relevant teaching qualification
