These positions are located in UNISFA. The Logistics Officers FS-6 reports to the Logistics Officer at the FS-7 level. The principal duty of the Logistics Officer provide efficient and smooth logistics support to the mine action activities of the mission in line with established standard procedures in achieving the mandate of the mission.Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision of Logistics Officer at the FS-7 level (Mine Action), the incumbent is responsible for organizing and executing mine action logistics and operations support . to ongoing UNISFA and Joint Border Verification Monitoring Mission (JBVMM) operations. He/she can also work as planning/desk officer. • Prepares drafts of various, complex mine action logistics and operational plans in support of the Force and the. Develops contingency plans for stand down and scale up of operations. Prepares drafts of mission specific Mine Action Standard Operating Procedures for the use by contractors and the Force and submits to his/her supervisor for review. • Prepares drafts budget requirements for planned or new operations and inputs to annual operational work plans including the military deployment plan and submits to his/her supervisor for review. • Manages logistics operations including management of specialized mine action contracts. Ensures timely, accountable and cost-effective delivery of mine action operations ensuring delivery is within the terms and conditions of the contract through the implementation of an appropriate and timely Quality Assurance management system. • Coordinates and provides logistics and operational support to ongoing operations in UNISFA, by issuing and tracking tasking orders for specialized mine action contractors and monitoring progress ensuring operations are conducted in accordance with mine action technical standards, such as: International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and corresponding Technical Standards and Guidelines (TSGs); International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATG); Modular Small Arms Control Implementation Compendium (MOSAIC) • Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. • Participates in verification missions to troop contributing countries to provide technical advice and guidance and make recommendations on standards and deployments. • Identifies requirements and shortfalls within his/her unit and submits to supervisor for logistics and operational plans; and manages special logistics operations related to mine action. • Keeps required records of logistic activities and level of essential supplies related to mine action and collects information on mine/UXO and populates relevant data into IMSMA in a timely manner. • Ensures that supervised staff are adequately managed and trained. • Performs other duties as required.

Graduation from a military staff academy or similar law enforcement training institution is desirable.Job – Specific QualificationRecognized national qualification as an EOD officer/technician (level 3) is required.Work ExperienceA minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience of practical field logistics operations is required. The number of years of work experience is reduced to (5) with first-level degree (bachelor’s or higher degree). At least 3 years of experience in mine action logistics and operations management such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Non-technical Survey (NTS), technical survey, mechanical clearance and ground preparation, manual mine clearance, Battle Area Clearance (BAC), road clearance, weapons and small arms ammunition destruction is required. Experience working in a peace operation or other similar international field operation including coordination with military, police and civilian entities is required. Knowledge of demining SOPs, technical and safety procedures is required. Military Experience (or relevant Police Experience) at the Senior NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) or Officer level (or equivalent) is desired. Experience managing the delivery of Explosive Ordnance Risk Education is desirable. Experience using information management systems such as Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA) or other similar databases is desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
