As a contributor to the modernization roadmap of major Canadian financial market infrastructures, the Bank of Canada develops business capabilities in Swift payments, collateral management, and post-trade securities activities in CDSX.What you will do
As a Business System Analyst in the Banking and Payments (BAP) Department, you are primarily responsible for providing expertise in business analysis for clarifying and documenting user needs so that the scrum teams understand and implement the features required by Banking Operations.When you join our team, you will;

  • Perform technical and functional requirements analysis, develop requirements and design documentation, supporting workflows and fully qualified Jira Epics and Stories to facilitate Product Development
  • Work with the scrum team to analyze, find and validate solutions to complex business problems
  • Identify opportunities to improve Banking and Payment business processes and capabilities
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including business/systems processes, data requirements, as well as functional and technical specifications related to the system
  • Analyze financial messaging standards to incorporate new features/functionality
  • Write, plan and execute test scenarios and coordinate user acceptance testing

For one of our teams (1 position), we are looking for relevant experience in the following areas (in addition to the above):

  • Business intelligence (business performance measurement, balanced scorecard)
  • Implementation of data related solutions (data warehouse, business intelligence solutions, master data management solutions)
  • Writing SQL queries for data extraction

You will be expected to work with data modellers to understand data requirements and current state within the source business systems. You’ll also work with ETL developers to understand data issues encountered during data processing.What you need to succeed
As a seasoned business analyst, you are experienced in eliciting, documenting, and managing high level needs and requirements for large scale IT enabled projects using an Agile methodology. Additionally, you exemplify the Agile mindset, valuing psychological safety, equal voice, visibility, transparency, purpose and belonging. Your effective verbal and written communication skills enable you to conduct needs assessments with the end users, provide context to the development and quality assurance teams, and build business analysis artifacts that are easily consumed by business and technical users. You are a standout colleague who can easily adapt to change, working with a diverse group of partners and scrum team members while using your analytical skills to work with the team to find and validate solutions.Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge of high-available banking and payments systems and/or the Canadian Payments landscape
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Certification in Business Analysis (CCBA) or other relevant professional designations
  • Familiarity with MicroSoft Azure Databricks
  • Knowledge of R and Python programming languages

Your education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce, computer science or related field and a minimum of five years of experience providing consultation in the development of business requirements as well as the delivery of business system analysis, ensuring accurate consideration of people, processes, systems design and technology.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with the agile software development methodology in the capacity of a business analyst

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $90,535 to $106,512 (job grade 16)
  • The Bank offers an incentive for successfully meeting expectations at 5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers performance pay for those who exceed expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
