Please Read Job Description and Person Specification attached for full detailsWest Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a post for a clinical fellow Trust IMT/ST3 level doctor in cardiology and general internal medicine.The successful candidate will provide day to day care and management of cardiology patients, both inpatients and emergency admissions. They will participate in the training and supervision of junior colleagues. Participation in a general internal medicine on call rota will be required, including the management of cardiac arrest calls.The post also offers the opportunity to work in a supportive cardiology team with training opportunities offered in all aspects of non-invasive cardiology, dependent on applicants competencies.The successful candidate will be a key individual assisting in the provision of the day-to day provision of a comprehensive cardiology service.This post is available for a fixed term of one year from 7th August 2024 – 5th August 2025.Main duties of the jobThe main duties and responsibilities will beProvide general care at registrar level to the patients admitted, including supervision of day-to-day management.Care for both the emergency admissions and in-patients in cardiology, including regular participation in ward rounds and assessment of patients referred from other departments.Escalate any concerns and seek advice from senior colleagues where needed.Be offered training in coronary angiography, echocardiography, pacemaker/ILR implantation, pericardiocentesis, and DC cardioversion. Supervision in these procedures will depend on the applicant’s competencies.Be given opportunities for experience in all aspects of non-invasive cardiology including ECG, ambulatory monitoring, exercise ECG testing, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology (MIBI) at West Suffolk Hospital.Provide an out-patient service under consultant supervision in specialist cardiology clinics.Participate in the training, teaching and supervision of junior colleagues, as well as the postgraduate teaching programme and teaching of medical students.Participate in the General Internal Medicine medical on call rota, currently an 11 week rota with 16 varied on call shifts within that period, including nights and weekends. Job responsibilitiesPlease Read Job Description and Person Specification attached for full detailsCARDIOLOGY DEPARTMENTOur Cardiac Centre was opened in November 2018 and comprises of 7 CCU beds, 15 cardiology ward inpatient beds, and a catheterization lab where diagnostic angiography, pacemaker and ILR implantations are performed, with a 6 bedded recovery area. The cardiology diagnostics department is also situated within the cardiac centre.The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust runs a very busy non-invasive cardiology department. We offer:Cardiac monitoring in the form of 24 hour Holter, 7 day event recorder and cardio memo 24 hour BP monitoring Imaging: transthoracic echocardiography, Transoesophageal echocardiography, 3D echocardiography, Stress echocardiography MIBI myocardial perfusion scans Ambition to start CT coronary angiography along with Radiology departmentThe NHS net links with GP surgeries are now up and running, with a dedicated electronic rapid access booking system. The existing PRISM cardiac investigations database has been expanded to provide not only reports, but make actual traces of 12-lead, ambulatory and exercise test ECGs readily accessible over the hospital intranet.Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
• MRCP (UK)

Desirable

• MD, PhD or higher degree

Career progression

• Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
• Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training
• At least 24 months’ experience in medicine or an IMT, ACCS or equivalent programme (not including Foundation modules) by the time of commencement of ST3 training

Eligibility
Essential

• Hold full registration and licence to practise with the GMC
• Evidence of achievement of Foundation competences from a UKFPO affiliated Foundation Programme or equivalent by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice including: ogood clinical care omaintaining good medical practice o good relationships and communication with patients ogood working relationships with colleagues o good teaching and training o professional behaviour and probity o delivery of good acute clinical care
• Previous clinical experience in Cardiology and General Internal Medicine at registrar level.

Desirable

• Evidence of completion of CT/ST1 or equivalent competences in medicine at time of application, and CT/ST2 competences in medicine by time of appointment, supported by evidence from work-based assessments of clinical performance and Multisource Feedback (DOPS, Mini-CEX, CBD, ACAT) or equivalent.
• Previous experience in echocardiography.
• Previous experience in diagnostic coronary angiography.
• Previous experience in pacemaker implantation.
