Taggart Realty Management has a significant number of projects under its management and is growing the portfolio of income producing properties through development and acquisition. As we continue to grow our real estate portfolio, we are currently looking for candidates in the role of Accounting Manager to support the Controller directly in leading the financial processes of the properties under management.Work DescriptionReporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for oversight of day-to-day and month/year-end accounting activities within the property management function. The Accounting Manager will act as a key resource to the various positions on the team, managing and supporting the property accountants and the accounts payable clerk. Additionally, the Accounting Manager will also be supporting the Controller in various improvement initiatives, and financial projects within Taggart Realty Management. The performance of duties requires an ability to manage priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet filing deadlines.Major Responsibilities:
Accounting Manager
- Day-to-day management of a team of accounting staff, including ensuring that monthly duties of team members are performed as expected, reviewing as required to ensure timely, complete, and accurate reporting in accordance with policies and deadlines, and providing feedback and coaching to team members.
- Review work prepared by accounting staff such as, bank and credit card reconciliations, HST remittances, loan and fixed asset schedules.
- Review the monthly financial statements and supporting schedules submitted by the property accountants prior to sending them out to investors.
- Review the year-end financial statement files and supporting schedules submitted by the property accountants.
- Preparation of the year-end financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
- Review the annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations prepared by the property accountants.
- Review the budget and forecast inputs submitted by the property accountants.
- Assist with the testing and implementation of Yardi property management and accounting software modules.
- Assist with resolution of day-to-day issues faced by the staff, escalating to the Controller or others as appropriate.
- Create bank transfers and online payments for approval.
- Support the Controller in handling of external service providers such insurers, lenders, auditors and other key stakeholders in the year end process.
- Identify and bring forward ideas for possible improvements in day-to-day accounting functions and assisting with implementation as approved by management.
- All other duties as required.
Statement of Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience is required
- Prior experience in Public Accounting would be considered a strong asset
- CPA designation is desired
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word), and in various financial software
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong ability to analyze and problem solve
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment, and to challenge and improve current practices
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Experience in a multi-company environment would be considered an asset
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and approach situations in a diplomatic and professional manner
