About the roleFinding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.We are looking for a Senior Specialist Resource Geologist who will work with the London and Site teams to develop and evaluate data and resource models for the Simandou Project. The Senior Specialist Geologist will do this by effective coordination with the team’s technical resources to ensure effective and fit for purpose data collection that is compliant with both technical and safety standards from a internal and compliance reporting perspective.This is a great opportunity for an individual with strong analytical skills, experience in resource modelling and geostatistics to help shape the development of a world class greenfield project.As well as demonstrated leadership ability, effective collaboration and interpersonal skills. Reporting to the Geology Manager you will:

  • Analyse, validate and interpret geological datasets from site drilling and mapping programs
  • Validate and interrogate all ore body data including but not limited to assay, logging, geophysical, structural and mineralogical data.
  • Review and support development of QAQC standards for geological data collection, analysis and interpretation
  • Lead in the development and interpretation and estimation of 3D resource models
  • Work and support peers and consultants with geological modelling, geostatistics, grade estimation
  • Assist with program planning of drilling and field mapping campaigns
  • Liaise with team members and stakeholders on drilling and evaluation priorities
  • Support and act as internal peer review for the other geological teams, to inform good practice in system and process development (Mine Geology and Resource Evaluation)
  • Provide safety leadership in promoting a safe and environmentally responsible working ethic, leading to an incident free workplace

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Geology with at least 5 years practical experience in resource modelling and estimation preferably iron ore or bulk commodities.
  • Experience in operational mining environments e.g. Mine geology & reconciliation, considered advantageous.
  • Experience in resource modelling and relevant software packages is essential (preferably Vulcan, LeapFrog, ArcMap, Supervisor, ISATIS and acQuire)
  • An understanding of the relevant exploration and evaluation techniques
  • Time management, planning and prioritising skills
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Exposure to mine safety systems
  • Capability in French and English language (written and or spoken) is considered advantageous
  • International or African experience will be an asset
