Manages a team of directors, senior managers, and managers by providing financial and people resource guidance.Job DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?The Basel Governance & Oversight Group are responsible for oversight of the efficient management of RBC’s overall Basel compliance framework and processes. The team provides subject matter expertise on Basel and OSFI requirements in the area of regulatory capital and reporting; monitoring the scope of such applicable requirements across RBC; providing effective challenge in coordinating the compliance assessment reviews; and researching expected regulatory developments for jurisdictions where RBC operates.This team also helps contribute to the effective challenge of self-assessments conducted for new model applications or modifications. This role is, therefore, critical to providing RBC with significant financial benefits through the ability to achieve regulatory approval on new models. Activities include managing schedule, scope, requirements, and sometimes high levels of complexity with multiple and competing demands and priorities.As the team lead for this group, you will help promote a “Best of Class” risk oversight environment.What will you do?

  • Lead the team providing insights into best practices and oversight on RBC’s overall Basel compliance framework and processes.
  • Lead the planning, setup and execution of the Bank’s OSFI Self-Assessment Process (SAP) across selected risk types (Credit, Market and/or Counterparty Credit Risk).
  • Effectively manage the OSFI SAP Tool to support adherence with OSFI’s Capital Adequacy Requirements.
  • Provides tactical decisioning and strategic recommendations to the ongoing enhancements to the SAP process. Participate in the rapid evolution of the overall Basel Compliance framework to align with best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain and enhance the Enterprise Policy on Self-Assessment Processes and Procedures for Maintaining the Self-Assessment Process.
  • Accountable for coordination and oversight related to the Basel-related and other submission of materials to OSFI. Prepare the development of presentations and other material for senior management.
  • Provide regulatory guidance relative to new business new initiatives.
  • Manage relationships with partners across the organization; help business colleagues and partners understand the OSFI Capital Adequacy Requirements (CAR) and expectations regarding the SAP process.

What do you need to succeed?Must-have

  • 10+ years in risk management and oversight/governance, preferably with a credit, market or liquidity risk background with strong business understanding.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSFI’s Capital Adequacy Requirements. Working knowledge of regulatory capital and key related risk metrics
  • Experience dealing with regulators and auditors (internal and external)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong aptitude for paying attention to details
  • Proven ability to motivate a team
  • Experienced in managing complex stakeholder relationships. Well-developed (demonstrated) leadership and relationship competencies with the ability to work cross-enterprise to drive initiatives forward
  • Comfortable challenging the nature and quality of assessments provided by colleagues throughout RBC. Superior impact and influence skills.
  • Undergrad level degree in business, finance, economics, law, accounting, or similar discipline

  • CFA, FRM or professional designations.
