  • Performs a range of tasks supporting field and office engineering for assigned projects.
  • Performs biddability, constructability, and operability reviews of plans and specifications.
  • Reviews contractor’s proposed work schedules for logic, adequacy, and feasibility and determines if schedules will be met.
  • Monitors contractor’s quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) systems.
  • Maintains and monitors daily construction logs, reports, and records and network analysis systems.

This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of nine and a half (9.5) years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency’s sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.Physical Demands: The work requires physical exertion. For example, long period of standing, walking over rough, slippery, uneven, or rock surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing, or similar activities; recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds (such as testing, sampling, or measurement equipment). Work requires regular visits to construction, industrial, riverine, or other outdoor sites.Working Conditions: The work environment involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks and discomforts which require staying alert and taking special safety precautions, such as wearing special protective items of clothing, gear, or equipment (e.g., hard hat, steel toe shoes, eye and ear protection, respirator, etc.). Construction sites are typically outside and may include remote locations. May be exposed to dust, strong odors, or fumes from fuels, chemicals, or engine exhaust; high levels of noise and vibration; electrical hazards; moving parts and machinery. May be required to enter high voltage areas and/or contaminated areas, requiring the use of proper safety procedures and protective equipment and clothing. Special hazards may be involved in working on tunnels and shafts at extreme vertical heights and working around sites using explosives in performing excavation. Outdoor conditions involve moderate exposure to wind, rain, cold and hot weather, rivers, and flash flood areas.Area Information: Bandelier National Monument is comprised of over 32,817 acres, including a designated wilderness area of 23,267 acres and an 800-acre detached archeological section. The monument was created to preserve the numerous archeological and natural features that hold ancestral and traditional significance to 23 tribal nations. The monument’s natural resources have been extensively surveyed and hold some of the most complete data sets for climate transition that exist in North America. Annual visitation exceeds 200,000. The monument is located 45 miles from Santa Fe, 32 miles from Espanola, and 12 miles from Los Alamos. Elevation ranges from 5,300 to 10,199 feet with headquarters located at 6,000 feet. Medical facilities, schools, and shopping are available in Los Alamos and White Rock. Los Alamos has one of the nation’s best public-school systems. Cultural and recreational opportunities are abundant in Santa Fe and surrounding communities.   • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

For more information on the qualifications for this position, visit theEXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of qualifying specialized experience for this position includes: working as an engineering aid or technician or surveying technician performing work directly related to construction. Construction inspector or construction representative responsible for interpreting plans and specifications, inspecting materials and workmanship, and insuring adherence to safety requirements.Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).
