As a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team, the Mental Health and Substance Use Aftercare Clinician provides assessment, intervention, treatment, outreach and/or detoxification and/or recovery consultation and referral for clients experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceBaccalaureate Degree in a health related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.Recognized post basic education related to mental illness and/or substance use disorders; Two (2) years recent related experience; an understanding of mental health and substance use disorders, concurrent disorders, acquired brain injury, dual diagnoses, stages of change, and community dynamics; proficiency with mental health and substance use assessments, treatment modalities, intervention strategies, case management; familiarity with providing client-centered, trauma-informed, and gender-affirming care, and working with marginalized populations.Knowledge of applicable legislation, such as Mental Health and Child Protection legislation. Knowledge of available programs and services, their interrelationships, and their function in delivering services in the community. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Valid BC Driver’s License.Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrated competence in the treatment of addiction and mental illness congruent with Island Health’s framework and standards within a rehabilitation/recovery, harm reduction focused model;
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated judgment, good observation and client assessment skills, tact and empathy in working with clients experiencing problematic substance use.

Link to Full Job DescriptionAdditional information for applicantsThe Aftercare Clinician program is a new initiative which aims to provide transition and care coordination supports to clients who are pursuing recovery from substance use. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with change and supporting in the development of a new program. The successful candidate for this position will be focused on working with those seeking treatment for substance use who need support to connect and maintain with substance use services and are not supported by a longitudinal team. The ACC will work closely with other teams including Harbour counsellors, HOPPS contract providers, Health and Housing teams and ICMT to identify and support service users.
