  • Full Time Permanent Contract
  • 39 hours per week.

Essential Responsibilities * Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice quality vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance as part of Management Team.

  • Accountable for the line management of the manufacturing quality team across the business – including performance management, task delegation, professional development and routine support including the maintenance of team performance to meet or exceed agreed targets with QAL.
  • Accountable for ensuring that all Control plans are in place and inspection requirements are complied with including inspection methods and equipment.
  • The development of both individuals and the team to improve working efficiency and performance
  • Responsible for ensuring the timely processing of non-conforming product is maintained in the defined procedures for MRB/NCR. Including disposition of scrap, rework and concessionary action.
  • Support any large/complex investigations into incidents of reported process failure/product-non-conformance, ensuring the appropriate level of rigour and deployment of appropriate quality problem solving tools are utilised to establish Root Cause and ensure preventive actions are in place to prevent reoccurrence.
  • The management of the Inspection department including training, development, professional and technical support. The deployment of appropriate Inspection resource to enable the processing of product in each business area. i.e. Structures, Treatments, Stores, Assy and Pipecell.
  • Maintenance of departmental compliance to procedures and processes including periodic review/audit for compliance and the making of any necessary amendment in a timely manner.
  • Accountable for ensuring that all FAIR/LAIRs required within the area of responsibility are completed by the team to agreed timescales. This may include personally conducting some FAIRs
  • To generate KPIs, reports and presentation packs other information as required by line management on monthly basis.
  • Accountable for the maintenance of MRB and Quarantine controls in the delegated area of responsibility
  • The completion of set objectives, standard/ad hoc tasks, projects or activities to agreed targets.
  • Ensure that all necessary systems and procedures are in place to satisfy all customer requirements and audits.
  • The conducting of any other tasks, projects or activities as delegated by line management.
  • Communication of any Quality Alerts to team to ensure any issues are fully understood

Position RequirementsAcademic:

  • Engineering or technical qualifications – Higher degree, degree, HND, HNC. Quality training – Quality Diploma or CQI qualifications
  • Engineering apprenticeship or training in a technical/engineering environment. CI methodology or other. Training and or qualification to recognised external standard in leadership/management disciplines or evidence of internal training for leadership. Recognised Auditor qualifications

Experience:

  • Leading and managing individuals or teams. Essential
  • Aerospace manufacturing and processing of components, sub-assemblies and assemblies or other similar engineering based industry – Required
  • Understanding of the inspection of parts and product to drawing – Required
  • Processing of non-conforming parts and completion of NCRs. – Desirable
  • DMAIC and/or 8D methodology and use of standard quality tools – Desirable
  • Experience of CI methodology and tools and experience of participation and managing CI projects – Desirable

Key Competencies:

  • Attention to detail, technical report writing, reading engineering drawings, Quality tools, Ability to plan and work under pressure

Other skills/Abilities

  • Ability to read and fully understand and engineering drawing including geometric tolerancing.
  • High degree of proficiency with MSOffice packages e.g. Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding and experience of process capability and basic statistical principles
  • Data collection including manipulation and analysis
  • Presentation skills and the ability to instruct/teach quality methodology and principles
  • Experience of the regular use of standard quality tools and concepts such as 5Y, 8D, A3, Poka Yoke etc.
  • Personal Attributes: Tenacity, integrity, drive, diligence, ability to act on own initiative and without supervision and the ability to work under pressure
  • Integrity – strength of character to stand by decisions and to not be adversely influenced or coerced into taking action, which may compromise quality.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and work with others and to impart information whether positive or adverse.
  • Strong knowledge of Core Tools, APQP, PPAP, Control Plans, PFMEA and SPC.
  • Knowledge of AS9145 and AS9100 Rev D a distinct advantage
  • Experience of leading quality investigations into reported non-conformity with structured problem solving process such as 8D, 5 Whys, A3, DMAIC
