The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) is seeking for qualified interns for a maximum internship of 6 months, depending on the needs of UNODA and the willingness of the applicant. The Office is mandated to provide objective, impartial and up-to-date information on disarmament issues and activities to Member States, States parties to multilateral agreements, intergovernmental organizations and institutions, departments and agencies of the United Nations system, research and educational institutions, civil society, especially nongovernmental organizations, the media and the general public. For more information, please refer to: https:www.disarmament.unoda.org. This internship is unpaid and is designed to be full-time and in-person at the New York duty station. The manager may allow part-time, remote or hybrid internships at the request of the successful candidate. The Intern, under the supervision of a primary supervisor, shall be assigned to the Regional Disarmament, Information and Outreach Branch and must adhere to the established official working hours five days per week with one hour for lunch break. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned tasks, and the internship period. Interns shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: – Review multiple news platforms for the creation of an integrated disarmament news summary to be shared with senior managers and others. – Assist the Office with strategic communication and public outreach. – Assist in developing media products for web and social networking platforms. – Assist in developing content management and development of disarmament stories and information to increase awareness and understanding of the issues by key audiences through information posted on the Office’s website and through social media channels. – Assist with drafting and editing publications (e.g. fact sheets, brochures, newsletters and donor-related updates) for internal and external sources. – Design and produce presentations and supporting materials to increase ODA’s visibility and outreach. – Proactively contribute suggestions and ideas for design projects that will add value to the work of the Office. – Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor.Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.Additional InformationNot available.Intern Specific textInterns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
