The internship in the Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), Institutions for Sustainable Development Goals Branch, is for two months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the Division. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The unpaid internship is designed to be in person and full-time at the New York duty station. The duration and modality may be adjusted at the request of the successful candidate. Depending on the situation of the successful candidate, the internship may also offer a Flexible Work Arrangement to be hybrid (in-person and remote). Responsibilities The intern’s main task will be to assist the team working on the 2025 edition of the World Public Sector Report in the Institutions for Sustainable Development Goals Branch (see https://publicadministration.desa.un.org/publications/category/World%20Public%20Sector%20Reports), by providing research assistance and analysis of qualitative data. The intern will work under the supervision of members of the writing team. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individuals’ background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Conducting desk research to identify reports, studies, and other relevant information related to the work of Supreme Audit Institutions on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); • Analyzing national reports produced by Supreme Audit Institutions according to criteria set up by the working team, and consolidating the results in a database; • Assisting with the analysis of interviews conducted for the preparation of the report; • Providing support to the organization of meetings and webinar organized by the Branch; • Assisting in the drafting and preparation of analytical documents.Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme. For this position, fluency in a second United Nations official language is an advantage.
