Hours: 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon – Fri (8:30 am – 4:30 pm; occasional evenings and weekends required)

Campus Location: Oshawa and WhitbyDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the direction of the Director, Financial Aid & Awards, the incumbent helps create an inclusive educational environment by addressing financial barriers for current and future DC students. The Financial Aid Resource Specialist provides individual coaching on financial aid and academic matters, supporting enrollment and retention by guiding students, parents, DC departments, faculties and community agencies on various financial aid programs, including OSAP, DC bursaries, scholarships, and other aid.Responsibilities include interpreting financial aid conditions, reviewing and processing OSAP applications and appeals, and developing workshops to promote financial aid programs. The incumbent represents DC positively in recruitment activities and assists students in achieving their educational goals by providing financial support, including the following.
- Enhancing Equity: The specialist works to bridge financial resource gaps, ensuring students from marginalized communities have equal opportunities for academic success.
- Advocacy and Outreach: They promote policies and initiatives to enhance financial aid accessibility and support outreach programs to raise awareness about financial aid options, ensuring more students understand that PSE is affordable.
- Navigating Complex Systems: The specialist simplifies and demystifies financial aid processes, empowering students to make informed educational decisions.
- Maximizing Resources: They help students identify and access a variety of financial aid resources, including government programs, private scholarships, and institutional aid, alleviating financial burdens.
- Data-Driven Decision-Making: By analyzing financial aid data and trends, the specialist provides insights to refine and improve financial aid programs, making them more effective and responsive.
- FAA Team – Operations, Release, and Approval of Funds: The position supports the FAA team with student funding approvals and releases, handling increased applications and new government programs requiring complex approval processes.
The incumbent will conduct off-site visits and be available for occasional evenings and weekendsQUALIFICATIONS: * Three (3) year diploma or degree in Business or related
- Minimum of five (5) years experience in developing, implementing and presenting workshops for educational purposes, and experience with social media and communications i.e. website content.
- Excellent student service orientation. Candidate should remain current in financial aid policy and process and have experience in a financial aid environment including advising and coaching prospective students on financial aid programs, money management and financial literacy.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with sensitive and confidential information, meeting AODA and FIPPA compliance, and in assisting and advising potential/current students and other clients from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
- Should conduct ongoing research and other professional development to ensure thorough knowledge of government, institutional, bank, and private financial aid and award programs as well as financial literacy and money management techniques and practices. Proven experience in developing, implementing and presenting workshops for educational purposes.
