You will lead the External Reporting team in telling the story of RBC’s financial results to the public through the quarterly Report to Shareholders, Annual Report and other external disclosures. You will be responsible for ensuring that financial results are effectively and consistently communicated to the general public and investment community, and that external disclosures comply with key stakeholder requirements.As part of the Chief Accountant’s Group, you will be part of a collaborative team culture that strives to challenge ourselves to be our best, think progressively to keep growing, and work together to deliver collective results.You would be a great match for this role if you have disclosure expertise (e.g. preparation of Annual Reports and Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A)) including familiarity with securities law disclosure requirements, a strong ownership posture, experience leading teams in a complex and dynamic environment, and a passion for driving process improvements.Job DescriptionWhat will you do?
- Lead the preparation and delivery of RBC’s Annual Report and Quarterly Report to Shareholders
- Translate results and developments into a clear and consistent story for external stakeholders such as investors and analysts
- Communicate key disclosure matters to senior leaders at RBC using a commercial/business lens, including through the preparation of materials for senior executives, our CFO, and the Board/Audit Committee
- Bring your unique perspective and curiosity to set ambitious goals, implement process improvements, and challenge the status quo
- Lead the delivery of strategic initiatives within the Chief Accountant’s Group and more broadly within the CFO Group, including disclosure process improvements and implementing new reporting tools and technology
- Lead the organization in assessing, evaluating and responding to new disclosure and regulatory requirements impacting RBC’s external disclosures
- Shape future disclosure requirements by leading advocacy efforts on developments impacting RBC’s external disclosures
- Liaise with industry peers on disclosure matters as needed through industry associations (i.e. Canadian Bankers Association)
- Shape RBC’s external disclosure strategy and deliver best–in-class disclosures through effective partnering with key stakeholders and benchmarking
- Support a One RBC approach to support and advance RBC’s ESG reporting infrastructure within Finance, including supporting ESG disclosure reviews and production of core ESG reports, and working collaboratively with the ESG Reporting team in relation to disclosure process improvements and implementing new reporting tools and technology
- Develop strong business partner relationships with senior members from across our business segments and functions
What do you need to succeed?Must-have
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation
- 10+ years of relevant work experience including experience in financial reporting
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively to executives
- Excellent leadership and people management skills with ability to empower the team
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills, including ability to recommend practical solutions to complex challenges in a dynamic environment
- Proactive and forward-thinking approach
- Drive to impact
- Excellent interpersonal skills – specifically, able to act as change agent, facilitator and collaborator
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- A “one team” mindset and willingness to support and contribute to broader Finance goals and objectives
Nice-to-have
- Strong understanding of regulatory disclosure requirements
- Solid understanding of financial institutions, including all facets of RBC’s business and other activities with strong business acumen
