Job Description :This is a full-time remote position that can be located anywhere in the U.S.The Director of Payroll is responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s payroll operations. This includes ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, maintaining compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, and overseeing the payroll team. The Director of Payroll serves as a strategic partner to the Finance and HR departments, providing insights and recommendations to improve payroll processes and controls.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, training, and change management to the payroll team which consists of a Payroll Manager and team of Payroll Analysts and Auditors.
  • Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate risk and ensure data integrity.
  • Oversee the full payroll cycle, including timekeeping, tax withholding, direct deposit, and check distribution for a 5000+ organization with five separate payroll groups that span all 50 US states and Canada.
  • Ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing for all employees, including regular pay, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in payroll legislation and best practices, and implement necessary updates.
  • Analyze payroll processes and data to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings. Work with internal and external partners to implement those improvements.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive payroll management experience, in mid-to-large sized organization (5,000+ employees with multiple business units / pay groups).
  • Thorough understanding of payroll regulations, tax requirements, and compliance standards across all US States and Canada.
  • Experience leading process improvement projects collaborating with HR, HRIS, IT, and Finance.
  • Experience leading integration activities for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Advanced understanding of payroll software and preferably experience implementing a new system (experience with Dayforce desirable).
  • Mature and collaborative approach to communication and relationship building with internal and external partners.

The expected base pay for this position ranges from $135,000 – $165,000.00 annually, and will be based on a number of additional factors including skills, experience, and education.
