Become part of our society.We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Business Area Financial Controller to join our team in Leeds. This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.In this role you will be an influential leader on the Finance Management Team and a key advisor to the Finance Director – deputising for them as required. You will be leading the finance function for the UK business area across Financial Accounting, Transactional Services, Financial Planning, Control and Management Accounts.What does the role involve?You will be contributing to and driving the success of the UK Business Area, across all aspects and in support of the UK strategy. Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Being accountable for the timely and accurate preparation of all local reporting to Business Area management, including month closing, quarterly forecasts and annual budget preparation.
- Being accountable for the timely and accurate preparation of all group reporting and operational management with Sweden, including month closing, quarterly forecasts, annual budget and treasury control.
- Being responsible for the primary relationship with external bodies, including banks, HMRC, general insurance firms, tax compliance and statutory audit firms.
- Lead representative for annual statutory audit process and accountable for oversight of timetable, resource and timely completion of statutory accounts.
- Being accountable for the Transactional Services Team and line manager to the Transactional Services Manager. Leading the function to ensure that all financial transactions in both the AP and AR teams are processed in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy and conformance to the core financial processes of Sweco Group Order to Cash and Purchase to Pay.
- Being accountable for the coordination of positive trade working capital trends in Sweco UK, supporting Division Managers and Heads of Commercial Finance in meeting their TWC targets.
- Being accountable for corporation tax, VAT compliance and all other indirect tax compliance.
- Being accountable for the maintenance and management of the Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger and Approved Supplier processes, working with the team to ensure they are up to date, Sweco Group compliant and adhered to.
- Being accountable to ensure financial controls are in place across all aspects of the function including tax, banking, general ledger, sales ledger/billing, accounts payable and project ledger. Ensuring development and ownership of the Sweco Financial Control Framework (FCF), sustaining high scores.
- Leading financial due diligence and post deal integration of finance functions in any M&A transactions.
To be successful in this role you’ll possess:
- Professional membership/qualifications: CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent with at least five years post qualification experience.
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller/Head of Finance/Head of Accounting type role.
- Extensive technical and statutory account experience under IFRS and UK GAAP, including experience of acquisition accounting and group consolidation.
- Good knowledge of accounting software and excellent Microsoft skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.
- Commercial acumen with a thorough understanding of the end to end P&L and balance sheet of a professional services/contract business.
- The ability to influence strategic decision-making within the business and make commercial decisions within defined parameters (delivers to agreed project scope, time, cost and quality).
- Experience of leading teams and excellent stakeholder management skills are essential.
- Experience of delivering across a multi-site organisation would be advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style to suit different audiences.
