The unit is also responsible for developing and implementing Financial/MIS applications services to meet the changing needs of Finance and the Bank. These applications have an enterprise-wide user community, and are an integral part of Finance’s performance measurement, reporting and control infrastructure.This role contributes to the overall success of the Global Finance & Risk Technology in globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
- The purpose of this job is to provide a process centric approach to defining the business requirements to support Finance data and technology initiatives.
- The Product Specialist will work with a cross functional team of finance and technology developer professionals, providing business guidance, project delivery and product support. They will draw on a strong financial literacy and knowledge of finance business processes to conduct requirements analysis, documentation and solution design.
- The incumbent works closely with various groups across the Bank’s Finance function, as well as Global Finance & Risk Technology, to ensure that proposed solutions align with the strategic direction for Finance’s process and information technology platforms.
- The Product Specialist communicates project progress, as well as the status of issues that impact project scope, business value, risk and resources. In addition, the incumbent provides a high level of professional service to the finance user community across EO and the Business Line’s Finance functions, consistent with Technology standards. Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships within the Bank’s Finance function, and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Participate through the full systems implementation process by working closely with business partners in Finance to define business requirements and processes, while also partnering with our internal development team and other technology partners as needed to define and deliver effective solutions. In addition, the incumbent will also develop test strategies and test cases, perform testing, define user procedures and workflows, develop conversion and implementation strategies, provide user documentation, facilitate user training, and provide post-implementation support.
- Complete ad hoc data analysis exercises to deepen understanding of new data sources that can enhance regulatory and financial reporting.
- Ensure smooth day-to-day operation, proactively addresses issues and engage / lead cross functional teams to address systemic or persistent issues.
- Ensure proper support procedures and processes are in place to support the various production systems.
- Build strong working relationship with peers within the Finance function and other technology partners.
- Expected to function independently to ensure that the assigned tasks and project objectives are met.
- Partner with both EO Finance and the Business Line Finance teams to build collaborative solutions that address all stakeholder needs.
- Participates in the investigation and resolution of Regulatory Reporting application issues.
- Keeps abreast of process and technology developments which affect the finance and accounting communities.
- Ensures the Team is kept informed of all unresolved issues, other areas of concern and other deviations from plans through timely and well documented reporting.
- Coach/mentor the Business Analysis team and provide guidance to junior team members.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education and Experience
- Experience in delivering services solutions for Finance and Financial Risk Management.
- OSFI and Bank of Canada regulatory returns
- Experience with Agile development methodology.
- Accounting or Finance Degree or strong financial literacy would be an asset.
- Business Analysis or Project Management Certification would be an asset.
- Possesses strong sense of curiosity and willingness to learn new ideas and concepts.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
