The University of Arizona (U of A) seeks a visionary and dynamic leader as the Chair of the Advanced Nursing Practice and Science (ANPS) in the College of Nursing, currently in NIH funding and #19 for DNP programs in the U.S. The next Chair of ANPS will collaborate closely with an enthusiastic Dean and dedicated team of faculty and staff to propel the College’s innovative research and educational initiatives to reach their goal of top 10 in national rankings. As part of the with its 15 Centers of Excellence, opportunities abound for interdisciplinary collaboration and sharing in the challenges and rewards of research and scholarship with colleagues who are recognized around the world for their excellence in teaching and research.Reporting to the Dean, the Chair plays a pivotal role in advancing the division’s mission and vision and will oversee the division’s budget, resources, and academic programs. Key aspects of this role include conducting a robust program of extramurally funded research, mentoring diverse faculty and staff to foster their professional growth, and ensuring a supportive and collaborative environment at the number one nursing school in Arizona.This position is expected to be appointed at 1.0 with .50 FTE assigned to the administrative role of chair. The remaining FTE assignment will focus on research and service. Opportunities are available for teaching in the PhD program and mentoring pre-doctoral, post-doctoral and junior faculty.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCollege / Division:

• Provide open, transparent, and regular communication with faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders about college and university strategic goals, vision and mission.
• Maintain shared governance in accordance with established College of Nursing policies.
• Oversee recruitment, retention, and management of personnel, including workload distributions, annual performance reviews, promotions, salary decisions, and disciplinary actions.
• Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and productive environment between the division, the college, and the University.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to complete academic program evaluations, academic program revisions and accreditation within division, as appropriate.
• Mentor faculty to grow external funding for programs in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Research.
• Maintain an active, externally funded program of research.

• Collaborate with inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary offices and groups as needed.
• Create visibility within and beyond the unit for unit initiatives.
• Broker partnerships with community leaders and agencies for synergistic interface.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Nursing or related field. If earned doctorate is not in Nursing, a graduate degree in Nursing is required.
• Distinguished record of achievement in research and service commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor.
• Eligible for Arizona RN license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior leadership experience in higher education.
• Experience with online, in-person, and hybrid programs.
