ABOUT SDSNThe UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement. We aim to accelerate joint learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world.SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society. It is directed by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs and operates through offices in New York, Paris, and Kuala Lumpur.ABOUT THE ARISTOTLE-CONFUCIUS SYMPOSIUMOur program aims to facilitate dialogue among leaders and scholars from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. We are honored to collaborate with esteemed institutions of the people’s republic of China and the Hellenic Republic. The UN SDSN, a global network promoting the sustainable development goals under the auspices of un secretary general Antonio Guterres, is the lead convener. The Nishan World Center for Confucius studies and Tsinghua institute for advanced study in humanities and social sciences were the leading hosts of the 2024 symposium.The 2024 Qufu-Beijing symposium was the third in our series of global meetings bringing together philosophers, policy experts, and leaders in the new digital technologies, to consider the meeting points and divergences of the ancient wisdom traditions, and to consider how we can draw on this vast bounty of knowledge to help us confront challenges such as the environmental crises, challenges of war and peace, and governance over the new cutting-edge technologies.POSITION SUMMARYUN SDSN is seeking a talented individual to support the SDSN Senior Manager with the Aristotle-Confucius symposium line of work.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- The consultant will help invite and coordinate with the symposium speakers, assist with the conference volume editorial team’s paper selection process.
- Support the review of the manuscript, ensuring accuracy and copyediting.
- Manage the symposium conference email accounts and reply to relevant emails.
- Schedule meetings of the editorial team; take notes at meetings and circulate follow-up action items. Participate in working group meetings.
- Research and writing support for A-C symposium’s substantive deliverables.
- Managing and organizing drafts, gaining legal consent for use of images and figures, copyediting, and supporting the design layout of the conference volume.
- Other items as relevant and assigned by the SDSN’s Senior Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE
- Professional fluency in English required (written and spoken)
- Master’s degree or higher in philosophy, history, humanity or economics is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in philosophy, history, humanity, or economics.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communications skills required
- Experience communicating with and working alongside high-level experts
