Job description
cbec, a member of RSK Group is looking for a graduate Consultant Geomorphologist who will be based in or prepared to relocate to Republic of Ireland in a full time, permanent role. At present, this will be a home office-based position only, so we welcome applications from across Ireland.The primary role, initially, will be in undertaking literature reviews, field data collection, geomorphological surveys and sediment sampling for the purposes of sustainable river management and research. The position will involve a combination of field site data collection and desk-based processing/ analysis. Training will be given across the full range of cbec’s field-based services in addition to a suite of desk-based skills (e.g. GIS and AutoCAD). This training will provide the successful candidate with the means to develop their career and interests at cbec across our service and focus areas.cbec eco-engineering is an environmental consultancy specialising in water resources and environmental management. Our key focus areas are river and floodplain restoration, natural flood management, fisheries and barrier management. However, our projects are also undertaken across a variety of other environments. Therefore, we encourage candidates from a broad range of backgrounds including fluvial geomorphology, estuarine/ tidal systems and peatlands. In addition to Ireland, the company currently has staff based across its offices in Inverness, Stirling and London, and undertakes work throughout the UK, Norway and Iceland.Key Responsibilities
- Literature reviews and ‘data mining’ from governmental reports, academic publications, and grey literature
- Perform GIS analysis for fluvial and tidal geomorphic research (e.g. DEM processing, satellite imagery, geomorphic/ geologic mapping, flood hazards, hydrological data, sedimentological and geophysical digital products)
- Supporting topographic, morphological, hydrological, peatland surveys or other physical river assessments
- Processing collected data and generating required outputs
- Provision of technical input to project reports and proposals
- Communicating regularly with project managers and other technical team members
Experience / Qualifications:
- Be educated to at least undergraduate degree level in a relevant subject, with an interest/ understanding of river, peatland or tidal environments (e.g. physical geography, environmental science or related fields)
- Be eligible to work in Ireland
- A willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork in adverse weather conditions within Ireland, and overseas when necessary (e.g. UK, Norway, Iceland)
- Proficient with a suite of Microsoft products (e.g. excel, word)
- Experience with GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS)
- Full driving licence
Salary and Benefits
- Starting salary of €32,000 – €37,000 per annum commensurate with experience
