These positions are located in the Department of Operational Support (DOS). Our interns work as full members of our team, pursue projects that are designed to make a significant difference in Commercial Air Travel Safety Unit, (CATSU) within the Facilities and Commercial Activities Service (FCAS), DOS, and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. The United Nations’ Commercial Air Travel Safety Unit (CATSU) supports the global UN System with policy, guidance, and information to enable decision-making on the suitability of commercial air operators for use in official UN travel. As the United Nations and its global workforce frequently operate in high-risk environments, it is essential to ensure that the safety of their travel remains a primary concern for the organization, allowing them to dedicate their undivided attention to their critical mandates without undue concern. The CATSU provides classified information and guidance to the 54 entities that make up the global UN System. This information enables them to make informed decisions when conducting or authorizing official UN travel and assists them in operational planning, and program implementation. Through these efforts, UN staff are beneficiaries of CATSU’s focused attention and commitment to air travel safety, so they can focus their attention to their critical humanitarian, development, and peacekeeping duties – wherever in the world they are located or may travel. The incumbent will report to the relevant supervisor. The Data Research and Programme Support intern: • Supports of CATSU’s work and its transition into new UN DOS Department. • Reviews, proofreads, and edits websites and other stakeholder communication platforms. • Conducts research, compiles, and organizes information and reference materials related to stakeholder communication and international commercial aviation safety, as assigned. • Provides support for the updating and maintaining of stakeholder and business information. • Assists with organizing and facilitating stakeholder workshops. • Participates and takes comprehensive and concise notes at meetings. • Collaborates and assists with creating, organizing, and maintaining stakeholder materials. • Provides support and review of data and statistical analysis efforts, as assigned. • Assists with drafting and preparing background documents, reports, briefing, talking points, presentations etc. • Other duties, as assigned.Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (1) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). (2) Be enrolled in the FINAL academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (3) Have graduated with a university degree as defined in (1) and (2). Preferably in Data Management, Data Science, Statistics, or any other related degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a university degree in the above disciplines. Applicants should: • Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. • Be enthusiastic and curious about learning and working at the United Nations.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For these positions advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.Additional InformationVisa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. Interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), allowing them to undertake the internship.Intern Specific textInterns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
