Contract type: Full Time (37.5 hours) – PermanentLocation: Aberdeen, Aberdeen International Study CentreSalary: up to £ 45,167.00 per annumJOB OVERVIEWThe role will support the Centre Director with the overall management of Aberdeen ISC.
The Head of Curriculum and Progression will provide the leadership and vision to deliver excellent student success through the development of teaching, learning and assessment, curriculum innovation and academic quality.
The role will be responsible for leading and supporting a team of academic staff including English. You will work closely with colleagues within and outside the ISC and be accountable for the delivery of contractually required progression rates to the University.ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Contribute to the Centre’s continuous improvement process to support the strategy and priorities for the ISC.
  • Work with the Centre Director in the development of programmes and student outcomes to meet the overall strategic aims of the Centre.
  • Provide effective performance management of direct reports, including setting personal objectives and KPIs; regularly reviewing the performance of direct reports; and conducting formal performance reviews according to company policy and procedures.
  • Contribute to planning and policy development in areas including human resources; academic development; learning, teaching and assessment; and academic quality assurance and enhancement.
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and identify appropriate actions to solve problems and enhance academic delivery.
  • Provide effective and efficient academic leadership, management and coordination of staff resources across the academic, working closely with the Centre Director and the management team.
  • Ensure the recruitment of all academic staff is planned, timely and compliant.
  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff and represent the Centre at appropriate events and meetings within the Centre, the University of Aberdeen (UoA), the Study Group network and externally.
  • Attend and actively contribute to relevant University Partnership Boards and Committees.
  • Provide academic leadership to programme teams, taking overall responsibility for academic standards, the quality of learning opportunities, and the accuracy and completeness of published information, ensuring that these are managed appropriately and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Centre.
  • Oversee the effective operation of various committee meetings as may be appropriate.
  • Contribute and support the quality process to ensure that the Centre is fully compliant with Study Group, UoA and relevant external agencies’ quality frameworks, policies, procedures and codes of practice.
  • Oversee and respond to External Examiner(s) with regard to student outcomes
  • Monitor progress against actions in the Centre Action Plan and report on these to the Centre Director and various governance committees.
  • Ensure that the Centre’s Quality Assurance framework is implemented across all academic teams and lead on the development of the Centre’s Annual Monitoring Report.
  • Analyse data and feedback from a wide variety of sources to monitor progress towards progression targets, planning and implementing remedial actions where necessary.
  • Produce reports, analyses and evaluations for all internal and external scrutiny processes of annual.
  • As part of the Centre management team, contribute towards effective day-to-day management of the ISC including inducting staff, implementing health and safety policies, arranging cover for absent staff, attending meetings as appropriate, and informing strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Work with the Student Experience Team to ensure timetables and assessments are scheduled effectively and to deadliness
  • Work closely with academic staff and the AES coordinator to ensure that appropriate, current and relevant subject, academic skills and language developments are integrated and embedded in programmes and aligned with partnership articulation aspirations.
  • Take the lead on appropriate Curriculum Development.
  • Monitor progression tracking and student outcomes planning activity and report to the Centre Director and Centre Committees.
  • Manage and address day-to-day issues that arise, ensuring that solutions are sought and problems are resolved effectively and efficiently.
  • To support the UKVI attendance process by ensuring the regular completion of weekly registers and checking with staff to ensure students are attending, completing work set, preparing and attending all tests, mid-term assessments and module exams, recording all issues and taking action with problems, to include in reports for the academic committees
  • Report any attendance concerns to the member of staff who is responsible for student attendance and escalate any areas of students concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DLS), when required.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key academic contacts at the University ensuring a full understanding of relevant University curriculum content, assessment modes and quality policies and procedures.
  • Ensure effective interaction between University staff and academic staff to facilitate the best possible transition for students to University study, liaising as necessary to support ongoing academic language development.

ABOUT YOU

  • A Bachelor’s degree and a postgraduate qualification (E)
  • Further management or leadership qualifications or a willingness to undertake such (E)
  • Experience in providing leadership in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, with recent evidence of significant success in bringing individuals together and forming a strong team ethos (E)
  • Ability to delegate activities set deadlines and take responsibility for overseeing their successful completion to meet challenging targets (E)
  • Experience in planning and delivering change or continuous improvement in teaching & learning which achieved a positive impact on student outcomes (E)
  • Experience working with international students and an understanding and knowledge of welfare, well-being and cultural issues which may arise (D)
  • Experience of data management and interpretation, and quality assurance (E)
  • Experience of HR duties, such as delivering training and taking part in the recruitment process (D)
  • Experience in successfully leading on internal communications, which includes disseminating complex messages or changes to operations (D)
