N252 operates across a globally integrated team, and partners closely with other MITRE departments supporting the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Headquarters, Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the Service Component Special Operations Commands (SOCs), and the Theatre Special Operations Commands (TSOCs). We work with the SOF Community to reduce risk; impact mission success; and help ensure the safe return of operators.Roles and Responsibilities:Qualified candidates will have a strong background in data science, AI/ML, and a proven track record of developing innovative solutions for complex data problems. This role involves leading technical teams, managing projects, and collaborating with various stakeholders to enhance our operational capabilities through advanced data analysis and machine learning techniques. The selected candidate will partner closely with the Special Operations Department leadership team, as well as the other strategic elements within MITRE, in support of Special Operations Forces (SOF) to develop tactical, operational, and strategic technological solutions and needs for the DoD and Intelligence communities. Candidates must be able to work collaboratively with an integrated, federated MITRE team demonstrating strong teamwork and cooperation with Intelligence, Joint & Services, MITRE Labs, MITRE Public Sector, and other work programs. The selected individual will also be expected to work closely with military and civilian experts from across SOF and other parts of the United States Government (USG) to address critical mission needs; provide options which anticipate operational needs; and identify relevant emerging methods that address the mission challenges of SOF and their partners. The role requires broad development experience from basic scripting to machine learning whilst working across multiple mission spaces and partners.Selected candidates will demonstrate the following:Domain/Technical Competence. Demonstrate strong familiarity in two or more of the following areas: (1) DoD Special Operations, (2) Machine Learning (3) Artificial Intelligence (4) Data Science (5) Computer VisionStrategic Leadership. Create strong relationships across leadership and subject matter experts in legal, policy, intelligence, technical, and special operations community. Proactively and closely partner with SOF program team to deliver technical solutions for special programs, sensitive activities, and specialized missions. Actively collaborate with other projects supporting related sponsors to ensure maximum value and impact across MITRE’s sponsorsInterpersonal Skills. Deliver strong leadership and develop a team that partners closely with both senior military leaders and action officers to identify tactical, operational, and strategic challenges, potential solutions; and communicate task goals and impacts clearly and effectively.Collaboration. Cultivate an environment that develops robust network of MITRE and other professional connections to engage and collaborate with engineers and planners, subject matter experts, specialists, and defense acquisition professionals. Leverage MITRE technical expertise from the Labs, capabilities from the MITRE Platforms, and other sponsor efforts to support the FFRDC value proposition.Senior Sponsor Experience. Comfortably and respectfully engage with both US and foreign nations’ senior military leaders and engineers, as well as commercial executives and managers.Flexibility and Suitability. Be able to modify and alter course as the environment and sponsor priorities shift. Understand the power of reach-back and be an effective conduit to bring the talent forward to execute at the right time. Operate within SOF culture and sensitive activities boundary conditions.Basic Qualifications:Typically requires 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Cyber Security Engineering, Computer Science, Biophysics or Systems Engineering or related field; or 6 years and a Masters degreeActive Top Secret/SCI clearance with polygraph and ability to maintain sponsor network access.Expertise in large-scale data analysis using Spark, Dask, and Hadoop.Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C/C++, and Java, with experience using Conda, NumPy, Scikit-Learn, Pandas, SciPy, NetworkX, Cython, Numba, Tensorflow, Pytorch, and SQL.Demonstrated success leading capability development projects and transitioning operational prototypes to sponsors.Demonstrated academic publishing in peer-reviewed Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Cyber Security Engineering, Computer Science, or Systems Engineering conferences, journals, and/or papers.5+ years hands-on experience with designing, building, and/or deploying software systems into the IC/DoDThis position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-sitePreferred Qualifications:Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Cyber Security Engineering, Computer Science, Biophysics, or Systems Engineering and related experience.Experience as a Project Lead for USG sponsors, including experience with internal business systems, property management procedures, and unique security constraints.Demonstrated experience and understanding of the specialized mission needs and relevant technical solutions in highly constrained operational environmentsDemonstrated experience identifying and closing capability gaps between sponsor AgenciesFamiliar with big data tools and techniques that contribute to the DVC (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Python, R, Matlab, and/or similar)Proficiency in three or more of the following languages: Embedded C, C, Python, Assembly, Go, RubyThis requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s): Top Secret/SCI/PolygraphThis requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s): Top Secret/SCI/PolygraphWork Location Type: HybridMITRE is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
