For more information, please visit the following link: Responsibilities:MAJOR DUTIES:Serves as the day/night/weekend Physician (Hospitalist) for Inpatient Medicine and assists in an outpatient clinic as needed. Performs highly responsible duties in the advanced examination, diagnosis and treatment of inpatients for the Primary Care Department. Based on the level of professional ability examines and conducts thorough studies of patients presenting with medical management problems. Evaluates laboratory and clinical findings, differentiating among the various contributory causes and prescribes appropriate treatment. Follows through on cases to ensure effectiveness and alters course of treatment as indicated. Collaborates with specialists in other areas on cases involving interrelated problems. Serves as the attending physician and admits and discharges patients to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Medical/Surgical/Pediatric Unit, and Newborn Nursery (depending on specialty). Patients include all age ranges from newborn (depending on specialty) to geriatric. Incumbent needs experience in ICU medicine to include advanced access techniques and invasive diagnostic procedures such as paracentesis and thoracentesis. Familiarity with management of the ventilated patient is necessary. The Hospitalist may be asked to perform and interpret exercise treadmill tests for select patients prior to discharge. The Hospitalist may be asked to participate in rounds in the nursery performing routine newborn physicals to include circumcisions based on the availability of pediatric providers (depending on specialty). The Hospitalist may be asked to conduct initial post-discharge follow-up patient visits in the outpatient clinic, as well as assist with admissions and complicated patient evaluations in the outpatient clinics. The Hospitalist would work closely with General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital (GLWACH) primary care providers, military consultants and civilian consultants in the local community. Attends key medical meetings and conferences and serves as a subject matter expert on areas of inpatient medicine.The incumbent provides administrative and direct supervision of assigned personnel including, but not limited to, students and staff physicians and advanced practitioners providing infrequent inpatient coverage. Plans, schedules, assigns and directs the work of others; establishes work priorities and deadlines; explains work requirements, methods and procedures as needed; and reviews work upon completion. Establishes standards of performance and evaluates performance of students and residents. Coordinates schedule with other hospitalists. Also apply interpretation of pulmonary function tests and electrocardiograms.Performs other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Basic Requirements:US Citizenship requiredBoard Certified/EligibleDoctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
