A position exists, for a part-time (10 hours per week) Research Assistant in the Department of Engineering, to work on the ‘UK-India Virtual Critical Minerals Supply Chain Observatory’ project.The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.The key responsibilities and duties are:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify and evaluate risks across critical mineral supply chains, including geopolitical, economic, environmental, social, and technological factors.
  • Developing and refining system dynamics models to simulate and stress-test the dynamics of CM supply chains; incorporating feedback loops, uncertainties, and interactions between stakeholders at different stages of the supply chains.
  • Collect, integrate, and analyse data from diverse sources to support risk assessments, modelling activities and sustainability analyses.
  • Reporting and documentation

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are:

  • Undergraduate and Masters degree in Industrial Engineering and Sustainability.
  • Experience in supply chain ecosystem and stakeholder mapping
  • Experience in supply chain risk, resilience and sustainability
  • Experience in systems thinking and system dynamics modelling software (preferably AnyLogic)
  • Proven experience in developing data architectures and process mapping
  • Experience in workshop coordination with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds (academic, industry, NGO).
  • Knowledge of critical minerals supply chains and their global significance.
  • A proven ability to effectively communicate with academic and industrial partners.
  • Able to collaborate effectively both with the research group members and with external colleagues
  • Research or work experience in global supply chains, resilience analysis, and sustainability assessments.
  • Highly organised, able to prioritise and work efficiently to agreed objectives and timelines.
  • Potential to develop a leading role in projects in the Industrial Resilience Research Group
