The University is at a key stage in its institutional transformation, with the implementation of its Academic and Strategic Plan and guiding principles—driving positive impact, decolonization, indigenization, and equity, environmental sustainability, emerging as a vibrant hub, student-centered approaches, innovation in learning, teaching, and research, and financial stewardship.Project Details:The Abundant Intelligences Research Coordination RA will support coordination efforts of Dr. Diamond as co-leader of the AbInt Research Working Group, setting objectives, planning, impact assessment, reporting for research across the Abundant Intelligences international research project. They will provide research and coordination support to the OCAD University Abundant Intelligences team (Susan Blight, Suzanne Morrissette, Peter Morin) as they plan and implement the development of “pod” at the university, in collaboration with York University and other partners. They will coordinate the planning and start up of the A Dish with One Spoon ––Towards “Generous AI” Invention and Collaboration project, A Dish with One Spoon ––Towards “Generous AI” Invention and Collaboration is guided by the powerful history and traditions of the region’s Dish with One Spoon agreement to develop a framework for AI research, education, and community benefit. They will undertake communication design support and outreach.Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Dr Sara Diamond and the AbInt management team to plan AbInt Research Working Group meetings and activities between meetings.
- Assist in the development of an impact framework for AbInt.
- Draw from Indigenous Knowledge Systems to assist in all planning and research activities.
- Facilitate experiments with and evaluation of AI tools using an IKS framework. This requires the ability to learn basic tools. It does not require programming knowledge.
- Coordinate the start-up, planning and implementation of the Dish with One Spoon ––Towards “Generous AI Invention and Collaboration project.
- Coordinate the planning of an OCAD U AbInt pod with partners (YorkU, university, and Indigenous community partners).
- Engage with community partners to frame and coordinate their participation in Dish with One Spoon.
- Establish documentation and project record organization.
- Plan and support project communication.
- Create web sites, social media and other materials.
- Present results at academic conferences and industry meetings, prepare and publish peer-reviewed articles.
- Publish research results in key academic journals and conference proceedings.
- Participating in the provision of safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities
Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled in OCAD University at either the undergraduate or graduate levels.
- Ability to undertake a literature review.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
- Interest and demonstrated capacity in the use of AI tools.
- Communication design (web design and creation, social media, graphic design)
- Excellent project coordination and documentation skills.
- Able to set up and support basic A/V presentation and recording and editing
- Demonstrated ability to engage with Indigenous communities and organizations such as cultural not for profits, or Indigenous communities in the Tkaronto area.
- Ability to participate in academic publication.
- Preference will be given to Indigenous students.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty
Hours of Work: 10 hours per weekWork Environment: The incumbent in this role will be expected to report to work on campus.Compensation: $21.32 (Undergraduate Rate) /$33.78 (Graduate Rate) per hour, subject to qualifications, plus 6% in lieu of benefits plus vacation pay, as applicable, per the provisions of the Employment Standards ActPlease note the following:
