Job description
To provide an efficient clerical support service to the Consultant Histopathologists and the department. This will involve the distribution of histology reports, filing of information and request forms, distribution of material for second opinion. They will be the initial point of contact for callers to the department either via telephone or in person.This job description is an indicative summary of the duties for this role however the post holder will be expected to carry out any other duties as required, consistent with responsibilities of the grade.Main duties of the jobA major part of the role involves extracting histological slides and retrieving cases needed for MDT meetings and liaising with staff of all grades in the department to ensure all information is available for the meeting.They will be the initial point of contact for callers to the department either via telephone or in person. Successful candidates would be expected to work during core laboratory hours of Monday to Friday 08.30 to 17.00.Candidates must have a minimum of GCSE Mathematics and English or equivalent. In addition, candidates with a word processing and / or typing qualification such as OCR I / II or equivalent would be advantageous. To take messages/action as required.To maintain an accurate and up to date filing system.To provide a copy typing service for the department.Ensure that case notes are available for Consultant Histopathologists when required, and ensures that case notes are despatched to the appropriate department or returned to file when no longer required.Collate material required for MDT and audit meetings.Locate cases, retrieve slides and escalate specimens to urgent status when required.To enter Histology data onto the computer, during any absence of the data entry staff, (maintaining competency by booking in at least 2 cases per week).To implement office standard operating procedures.To undertake any additional training or professional development relevant to the post.To comply with Health and Safety rules and regulations and to maintain confidentiality as required by the Data Protection Act.Take part in collating all HER2 information and sending off materials for further investigation. Monitor of returned results, to include booking back in.To assimilate slides and reports for Audit meetings, and MDT meetings as and when required, and to return material to file after use.Scanning of archived paperwork as required.To monitor the Materials handling database and chase up outstanding slides/blocks for return as necessary.
