We are seeking a “student recruiter” willing to promote the many benefits of pursuing their university education in a dynamic faculty known for excellence the fields of environment, agriculture, nutrition and food science, engineering, etc.Position Summary:Under the direction of an Associate Director, participate in recruitment of prospective students for programs offered at the Macdonald Campus and McGill University. Undertake a combination of virtual recruiting sessions and in-person (off campus) recruiting with up to 7 weeks of possible travelling to educational institutions within Canada (British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec) and in northeastern US during the fall months; and in Yield rendez-vous sessions and recruiting in the spring with up to 3 weeks of possible travelling. Inform prospective students on admission issues and processes. Respond to complex admission inquiries, maintaining extensive knowledge of the Faculty’s five degrees and their specific requirements. Plan and organize recruitment initiatives/events while remaining within the allotted budget. Supervise direct-reports (unionized).Primary Responsibilities:Undertakes recruiting events with a combination of virtual recruiting and in-person, with travel required in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and northeastern US. Trips include school visits, high school and college fairs, conference-style fairs (NACAC), etc. Acts as resource person for counsellors at educational institutions.Makes presentations to prospective students and their parents in person or online. Answers questions concerning programs, prerequisites, admissions procedures, tuition, financial assistance, on-campus accommodation and services, career outlook, etc. Distributes appropriate materials.Completes visit reports, with suggestions for future improvements.Creates content and maintains a social media presence for prospective students on a variety of social media platforms.Participates in annual planning and scheduling of recruiting events based on analysis of previous year’s activities and costs. Prepares budget submission for recruitment activities. Assists Associate Director with development and finetuning of marketing/recruitment strategy for the Faculty for inclusion in unit’s strategic planning report. Collaborates with Recruitment unit of Enrolment Services by participating in team visits.Participates in University recruitment training, to learn about all McGill programs and services. Provides information about Macdonald Campus programs to downtown recruiters.Assists with organization and participates in a variety of Faculty events for prospective or newly admitted students (e.g. Orientation Week, Open House, Campus-Connect, student-for-a-day, Voici une journée, campus tours, etc.). Participates in other campus-wide events (Convocation, Sneak-peak, fairs, etc.)Oversees complex admission inquiries by e-mail; acts as resource person for complex admission inquiries. Ensures that weekly admission statistics are printed and available to the Associate Dean; prepares ad hoc admission reports as needed. Reviews and advises on prospective admission scenarios of students with unusual academic backgrounds. Collaborates with the other Recruiter in the faculty to review unusual admission scenarios in order to provide consistent information.Verifies and ensures accuracy of records for newly-admitted students. Transfers any advanced standing credits; ensures missing pre-requisites are listed for each category of students (high school, Quebec Cegep, French baccalaureate, International baccalaureate, advanced placement, etc.)Supervises unionized direct-reports. Responsible for the hiring of tour guides for campus tours (advertising, interviewing, selecting, hiring, training, approving time entries in WD, scheduling shifts, supervising and evaluating performance).Monitors expenses, makes purchases of materials and supplies within delegated limits, requests purchase orders through MMP and reconciles financial transactions. Monitor payroll for AMUSE tour guides/Student Ambassadors.Participates in overall operation of the unit and in special projects.Other Qualifying Skills and/or AbilitiesProven organizational, communication, presentation and customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to interact with students, the public and all levels of staff. Ability to promote McGill and Macdonald Campus programs, in person or through the use of virtual and social media platforms. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Valid driver’s license required; job entails some (overnight, multi-day) travel during Fall and Spring recruitment periods. May be required to conduct one recruitment event internationally, either independently or as part of a McGill delegation. Demonstrated ability to work in a computerized environment, using a variety of software (including presentation software), the Internet and the unit’s web site applications, social media platforms, platforms such as Zoom, MS Teams, Webex; navigation in Workday, Banner SIS, Minerva.Knowledge of French: Must be fluent in verbal communication, and advanced in written communication.Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
