An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Teaching and Learning Team in Health and Social Care as a Teaching and learning Mentor. Reporting to the Head of Teaching and Learning you will be part of a dynamic team in one of the largest departments in an Ofsted rated Good FE College, driving CPD, mentoring new and existing staff within a culture of continuous improvement and excellence. As a Teaching and learning Mentor you will be responsible for coaching new lecturers through their Start for Success period and mentoring existing staff to succeed and develop within their practice. You will collaborate with Curriculum Team Leaders to design, develop and deliver effective CPD sessions based on faculty priorities and quality assure the quality of education with class visits aligned with Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic team player with the ability to work independently and foster a collaborative approach to improve the quality of education across all levels. You will be an innovative teacher with a drive to model and share best practice in effective classroom strategies. You will have a teaching qualification or be willing to work towards certification while in post. It is desirable to have a background in either a health or social care vocation as teaching hours will be in this field. As part of your own continuous professional development, you will be supported to complete Advanced Teacher Status and have the opportunity to further develop through completion of leadership qualifications. - Middlesbrough College is the largest General Further Education College in the Tees Valley with a £120million campus in the heart of Middlehaven. Within the campus there is a main building for full and part-time vocational study, a dedicated Sixth Form, a STEM Centre, a Higher Education Centre, a Digital Centre and the new £14million TTE Technical Training Centre opens in September 2024. Additionally, there is an Adult and Community Learning Centre close by which provides training to hundreds of adults and ESOL students each year with a new purpose-built Centre opening in the Centre of Middlesbrough in the next few years.
- We support the training of over 2000 apprentices across a 75-mile-wide area of the North East from Newcastle down to York working across a range of sectors partnering with over 1000 employers.

- The College was Ofsted inspected in February 2024 and was rated Good with Strong Skills and six Outstanding features. The College also won the Careers & Enterprise Company Award for Excellence in Careers and Enterprise at the Association of College’s Beacon Awards in March 2024.
- In 2022/23, 96% of learners following a study programme attained a positive destination into further training, apprenticeship, or employment. In the 2024 in-year student exit survey, 95% of students said the teaching on their course was good, and 98% of students said their teachers knew the subjects they taught well.
- We employ over 1000 staff and are committed to our staff’s development using an interactive online system called Thrive. We have a wide range of continuous professional development opportunities including a bespoke Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) programme for our aspiring and existing leaders. The successful candidate will have:
- To hold a relevant qualification at level 4 or above.
- To be a qualified Teacher or must be prepared to commence an appropriate teaching qualification on appointment to the post.
- Personal commitment to keeping your professional knowledge up to date and improving your capabilities.
- Grade C or above in Maths and English (or equivalent) or willing to work towards it.
