Job description
Preference will be given to qualified full-time employees within the bargaining unit at Sheridan College. Should a suitable candidate not be found, external candidates will be considered.Under the direction of the Manager, Facilities Operations, the Electrician is responsible for campus electrical systems. This includes planning and co-ordinating contractors and maintenance activities related to electrical systems and performing repairs and preventative maintenance of fire alarm panels, electrical panels, lighting systems, power systems and clock systems. The Electrician also provides recommendations during construction and renovation projects related to power source, routing of conduits, brands of electrical panels, etc.What You’ll Be Doing
- Installing and maintaining all master controls (MCCs), electrical panels, transformers and wiring circuitry;
- Checking connections, breakers, fuses, linkages etc.;
- Monitoring electrical distribution; voltage/amperage fluctuation and spikes;
- Installing, maintaining and repairing electrical systems, fire systems, time clock systems, alarm systems, and lighting systems as well as electrical systems on equipment such a chillers, air compressors, etc.;
- Determining course of action to resolve electrical problems, undertaking repairs and assisting with energy management/monitoring;
- Coordinating contractors or electrical utility to attend for major repairs and installations;
- Advising Facilities Services staff on electrical requirements for renovations and expansion projects;
- Installing electrical services meeting the Electrical Safety Authority regulations to equipment such as Xerox machines, printers, bank machines, equipment controls, etc.;
- Planning and conducting/overseeing the maintenance and servicing of main and secondary transformers and switch gear as well as master clock system;
- Assessing the needs of the electrical supplies and maintaining in stock all components required for regular maintenance and material required for unscheduled and emergency repairs;
- Maintaining records of electrical schematics, installations, system testing and electrical work performed;
- Performing other related duties, as assigned.

- Ontario Certificate of Qualification as Construction and Maintenance Electrician or Industrial Electrician;
- 5 years of experience as an Electrician within a large-scale institutional facility, preferably in a college, university or hospital;
- In-depth knowledge of facility electrical systems operation and maintenance;
- Excellent electrical diagnostic skills;
- Working knowledge of BAS software and project software;
- Ability to read electrical blueprints;
- Electronics Technician or Electronics Technologist diploma (considered an asset).
