This is a unique opportunity to combine working as a community midwife with a specialism in smoking cessationYou will be working with an experienced specialist smoke free pregnancy midwife who will help you to advance your knowledge and improve your skills while preparing you for your next career move.We currently have an opportunity for an experienced band 6 midwife to join the smoke free team on a 12 month secondment.Based in Bexley Community you will work with tobacco dependent women and provide smoking cessation advice whilst caseloading these women.You will be part of the Smoke Free Pregnancy team that works to enable good care for mothers/birthing people who are tobacco dependent to ensure a good outcome for the birthing person and baby.You will also work within the team to share learning, teach and support the embedding of new practices.Main duties of the jobYour duties will include normal community midwifery with the addition of the following:You will Support, assist and advise women/birthing people who continue to smoke during pregnancy to develop individual care plans, and making referrals to additional specialist support.You will caseload these clients in your smoke free pregnancy clinics in order to provide tobacco treatment solutions to women/birthing people and their partners. This will include implementing the risk perception intervention if required.You will act as an advocate for women/birthing people to ensure they get the support they need to successfully quit smoking.About usOur people are our greatest asset. - Knowledge of how to access emergency services in both hospital and community setting
- Can interpret CTGs and identify features which deviate from accepted parameters of normality
- Experienced in resuscitation of the new-born
- Experience in caring of women/birthing people in low-risk setting including home births and waterbirths.
- Computer literacy
- Able to deliver a high standard of evidence based individual client care
- Effective communicator with good leadership and interpersonal skills
- Evidence of ability to take charge in the absence of their direct line manager
- Demonstrate midwifery skills underpinned by current evidence oTo include suturing, venepuncture and cannulation skills or operineal repair/ commitment to achieve competence within 12 months of appointment
- Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of audit and policy
- Demonstrate competence in the promotion of infant feeding using experience based practice
