You are not required to relocate.Role Purpose:The purpose of the Regional Commercial Analyst role is to support the strategic objectives of the UK & Ireland Exams business through:

  • Accurate Forecasting: Delivering precise forecasts of business and market performance metrics using a range of methodologies, including algorithmic forecasting, and routinely reviewing models to improve predictive accuracy.
  • Data Analysis: Conducting comprehensive analysis of both supply-side and demand-side business performance to identify potential performance improvements and efficiency gains.
  • Generating Insights: Producing actionable business and commercial insights by analysing multiple data sets, focusing on stories and recommendations that drive decision-making.
  • Clear Communication: Transforming complex data into understandable narratives and recommendations for business stakeholders, ensuring that insights are accessible and impactful.

Role Context:The English and Examinations Strategic Business Unit (E&E) is a strategic business unit within the British Council, which has the remit to build trust for the people of the UK by building relationships through aspects of our language and culture. E&E achieves this by enabling people across the world to access the life-changing education and work opportunities that are created by learning English or gaining valuable UK qualifications.The Examinations business makes a significant contribution to British Council financial sustainability, and as such, it is essential that the business evolves to maintain its position in a fast-changing operating context. There is a need to standardise and automate activities across the globe to deliver efficiencies, and there is also a requirement to develop new digital products and services to meet changing customer demands and competitive pressures.The UK & Ireland Exams business comprises a team of around 35 based across the UK and delivering around 200,000 exams each year. The UK is the home market for the IELTS test.Main Accountabilities/Responsibilities:The Regional Commercial Analyst will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

  • Analytical Expertise: Producing regular quantitative and qualitative analysis on business performance and strategic issues, translating complex data into actionable insights.
  • Data Modelling: Navigating complex data modelling concepts and translating them into actionable business needs, while responding effectively to new concepts and solutions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Statistical Modelling: Building credible statistical models from data using best coding practices to ensure reproducibility and reliability in analysis.
  • Volume Forecasting: Generating accurate short-term and long-term product volume forecasts at the product, venue, and session levels, employing algorithmic forecasting techniques such as Prophet, ARIMA, or exponential smoothing.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to understand and define their needs, then creating and iterating reports based on user feedback and testing.
  • Project Management Support: Providing project management and professional support to the Director of Exams, UK & Ireland, including the development of performance reports for the Exams Leadership Team and assistance with the business review process.
  • SM&OP (Sales, Marketing & Operational Planning) Analysis and Reporting: Delivering the analysis and reports that underpin the SM&OP process, ensuring robust insights inform decision-making.

Role Specific Knowledge and Experience:Minimum/Essential:

  • Power BI Development Skills: Proficiency in Power BI for report creation and data visualisation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated experience in presenting findings and data to senior stakeholders, effectively communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Data Management Expertise: Strong ability to work with raw data, including skills in managing, interpreting, and evaluating qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Experience with Large Datasets: Proven experience in handling large datasets and familiarity with various data visualisation and data mining tools.
  • Educational Background: A degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.

Desirable:

  • Statistical Techniques: Familiarity with statistical techniques and their practical application within a business context.
  • Python Expertise: Proficiency in Python and statistical analysis using relevant packages such as NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas.
  • Statistical Software Knowledge: Familiarity with statistical software R and its relevant packages, or a willingness to learn.
  • DAX Knowledge: Understanding of DAX for Power BI, or a willingness to learn.

Role Specific Skills:

  • Advanced Excel and Power BI Proficiency: Expertise in using Microsoft Excel and Power BI to prepare, analyse, and visualise large datasets effectively.
  • Demand Forecasting Methodologies: Strong knowledge and practical experience in various demand forecasting methodologies.
  • Quantitative Analysis Expertise: Proficiency in quantitative analysis techniques and methodologies, enabling robust data interpretation.
  • Data Translation Skills: Proven ability to translate complex data specifications into usable datasets that serve both financial and non-financial reporting needs.
  • Effective Communication: Experience in presenting findings and data to non-technical audiences in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Familiarity with Data Tools: Knowledge of additional data visualisation and data mining tools, enhancing analytical capabilities and insights.
