St Luke’s Hospice is the major provider of specialist palliative care to adults in Plymouth and South West Devon. St Luke’s clinical services consist of a community team, specialist inpatient unit, hospital team, End of Life Urgent Care Service and an education department. The In-Patient Unit provides expert symptom management and psychological support to patients and those important to them. We are committed to ensuring that everyone who uses our hospice is treated with dignity, fairness and respect and is empowered to make choices about their lives.We are delighted to offer a new opportunity for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the In-Patient Unit team based at our Turnchapel Hospice. As a specialist nurse you will be joining an established team providing expert clinical management of pain and symptom control as well as psychological support and care in the last days of life. Integral to your clinical role you will also support the delivery of training and education to staff in the unit, to include direct teaching, shadowing and peer support. You will be an independent nurse prescriber.Key responsibilitiesWorking closely with and reporting to the Head of IPU Nursing, you will provide guidance, support and development to the nursing team to deliver palliative care, pain management, symptom control, and emotional support to patients and their loved ones.To act as a mentor and role model for the IPU Nursing team, leading by example, and demonstrating consistent, fair and professional behaviours.As a non-medical prescriber (NMP) to contribute to pharmacology discussions, using the Ashtons E-Pharmacy system for electronic prescribing, administration and ordering of medications.Our ideal candidate:We’re looking for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care who has the passion, skills, commitment, and resilience to support the leadership of this established team.
