Clinical Nurse Coordinator, Health ComplexityBC Children’s Hospital and SunnyHill Health CentreVancouver, BCThe BC Children’s Hospital Health Complexity portfolio supports children living with health complexity and their families across the continuum of care (hospital, outpatient and community settings). A key focus for the Health Complexity portfolio is to partner with families and develop strong collaborative relationships with colleagues in other health authorities, ministries and community service providers including universities and academic institutions to identify opportunities for research collaboration and share information in the drive to optimize integrated care services and best practices.This role offers unique opportunities to engage with multiple sectors and connections across a broad network of services and service providers to facilitate the delivery of care focused on children living with health complexity. This role requires an extraordinary, experienced nurse leader who demonstrates values-based leadership, quality management and negotiation skills, a keen ability to lead diverse teams and promote teamwork and integrated services at the local and provincial level while truly understanding the clinical and psychosocial complexities of the patient population.What you’ll do
- Supervise nursing and clerical staff through monitoring clinical performance and defining areas for improvement. Collaborate with the Program Manager, nursing leadership team, and interdisciplinary team members regarding unit and performance issues. Provide input into staff educational needs and develops plans for continuing education programs in conjunction with the clinical instructor. Complete performance reviews and plans for assigned staff members.
- Manage the operation of the Unit/Program and supports the delivery of direct/indirect patient care within budgeted resources. Coordinate or delegate patient assignments, develop rotations, approve vacation, short term leaves and overtime, and monitor unit activities.
- Act as a clinical resource to nursing staff, students, and other members of the interdisciplinary team, by demonstrating procedures, answering questions related to clinical practice issues, problem solving, and anticipating potential concerns. Advise Program Manager of issues/concerns.
- Monitor the patient acuity and flow of patients on the nursing unit, to ensure that staffing levels match patient and unit needs. Make adjustments to the assignments to reflect changes in acuity.
- In conjunction with the Program Manager, and clinical instructor, participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of applicants for positions. Make recommendations to Program Manager regarding staffing plans.
- Provide input into the development, delivery and evaluation of orientation, in conjunction with other members of the health care team. Facilitate transition to unit by ensuring orientation meets individual needs.
- Collaborate with the nursing leadership team and interdisciplinary team members in identifying learning needs of nurses and implementing educational strategies and programs. Present in–service educational sessions for staff as required.
- Assist the nursing leadership team and other resource nurses in promoting further education, by mentoring staff regarding educational opportunities, and model/mentor strategies for interpersonal conflict resolution with members of interdisciplinary health care team.
- Assist in the handling of employee relations issues including responsibility for up to step two of the grievance procedure. Work with Program Manager toward resolution of issues.
- Provide input towards the formulation, implementation and evaluation of the Program patient care standards and polices and procedures based on identified changes in patient populations and treatment approaches. Collaborate with interdisciplinary care team members regarding quality improvement initiatives by making recommendations for projects. Follow up on incidents concerning staff and patients and ensures critical incident stress debriefing sessions are held as required.
What you bringQualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Three (3) year’s recent, tertiary experience in the clinical speciality of the Program, including one year’s recent experience in a supervisory/leadership capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current practising registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Current CPR certification
