The incumbent will oversees the accuracy and integrity of the financial data in the Financial accounting system and supports the organization for financial, regulatory, and tax reporting obligations by providing timely, accurate and complete financial information.Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:Strategy and strategic input

  • Represent Financial Services area in projects related to Peoplesoft or Scotia Integration
  • Present finance viewpoints to senior leadership in cross-functional projects as required
  • Recommend courses of action to senior management on any projects/issues with a financial services impact
  • Proactively propose and implement improvements to business processes, procedures, and policies, as well as review and update departmental policies and guidelines.

Leadership and communication

  • Lead a combined team of accountants and procurement specialists with a focus towards accuracy and continuous improvements that minimize errors and risks while promoting efficiency
  • Develop employees through regular coaching and performance management, promoting the development of expertise and cross-training through out the various teams.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills permitting effective management of a wide variety of stakeholders including internal business clients, third party vendors and consultants to ensure business requirements are being met.
  • Strong focus on superior customer service and an ability to provide collaborative and creative solutions to escalated issues.

Financial Services

  • Direct, supervise and review the production of monthly, quarterly and annual financial results on a timely basis.
  • Lead the external and internal audits for the department, delegating audit requests as appropriate and formulating management responses to audit issues and/or queries.
  • Overall responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of financial data in the accounting system in a timely basis by implementing appropriate controls and reviewing reconciliations completed by the team.
  • Manage the application of sales tax legislations and ensuring all sales taxes are reconciled and remitted according to tax authority requirements
  • Ensure compliance to corporate policies as well as IFRS accounting standards
  • Manage procurement initiatives to ensure most efficient and effective procure-to-pay processing.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? – We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Completion of CPA program.
  • University degree in Business Administration with accounting or finance major preferred.
  • Experience in the preparation of financial statements and a sound knowledge of IFRS.
  • 5+ years of corporate accounting work experience, at least 3 of which have been in a people leader capacity.
  • Advanced problem solving and reconciliation skills are mandatory.
  • Peoplesoft knowledge is an asset.
  • Proven ability to interact and lead dialogue with external professionals (consultants, service providers, auditors).
  • Able to prioritize objectives independently based on risk and impact analysis and successfully achieving these goals according to the timeline.
  • High level of technical expertise with computerized accounting system environment proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows including Excel, Word, and MS Outlook.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Team player with ability to work autonomously with minimum supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage staffing issues.
  • Change management leader who facilitates the integration of technology solutions.
  • Willingness to work the required overtime in order to meet established deadlines.
  • Commitment to achieving superior client service results.
  • Energetic and open to broadening of responsibilities.
  • Bilingualism is an asset
