The General Surgical team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals are seeking to appoint a LAS Specialty Registrar Doctors. The appointment is to commence on or before 2nd December 2024 for a fixed term period of 10 months until 30th September 2025. MRCS or equivalent is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to ST3+.Main duties of the jobTo provide surgical care to the residents of Sheffield and surrounding areas both in and out of hours. - Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Basic Medical Degree
- MRCS
Clinical experienceEssential
- Completed foundation training and core surgical training (4 years) or be able to demonstrate equivalence of training
- Minimum of 6 months NHS Clinical experience (excluding clinical attachment)
Desirable
- Experience in General Surgery at a Registrar level
ResearchEssential
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
- Basic understanding of research methods and statistics
Desirable
- Publications in Peer reviewed journals
Teaching and TrainingEssential
- Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Continuous Professional DeveloEssential
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal attributesEssential
- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013).
