SDSS grants bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in STEM fields of sustainability plus the social sciences.The Internship Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the new SDSS Summer Internship Program, in pursuit of school strategic goals. The position works in close collaboration with school leadership, and is responsible for developing campus relationships in support of students seeking sustainability-related professional experiences. This position will report to the Assistant Dean of Professional Development and Community Building.Your Responsibilities will include:

• Develop and direct the growing internship program, including managing and developing relationships with employers and managing the student cycle (marketing, application, interview, wrap around support through to end of experience reflections) as well as the budget
• Work closely with SDSS external relations staff to diversity and increase the number of internship opportunities, ensuring a breadth of industries (for profit, non-profit, NGO, etc) as well as geographic locations.
• Investigate, interpret and implement university policies that govern student experiences both domestic and international. This includes pay, immigration, safety and travel policies.
• Partnering with the Wood’s Institute and other SDSS units, expand internship opportunities and develop mechanisms to promote all sustainability internship programs.
• Develop a strong partnership with Career Education to support alumni mixers, career fairs and career-focused round table discussions.
• Manage the SDSS job board.
• Serve as the SDSS representative with campus partners such as the alumni association and the Stanford professional schools’ career services, regarding sustainability careers.

To be successful in this position, you will need:

• Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
• Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to review and analyze complex information.
• Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Advanced customer service skills.
• Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
• Understanding of financial transactions.
• Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

In addition, our preferred qualifications include:

• Knowledge of careers in sustainability
• Demonstrated experience in providing coaching, advising, counseling, or teaching in educational settings to diverse communities, especially with undergraduates.
• Experience developing and executing programs and facilitating group engagements and learning experiences.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to keep track of multiple projects and exhibit sound judgment independently.
• Entrepreneurial, creative, and innovative spirit; comfortable with change, ambiguity, and risk in dynamic environment.
• Multicultural awareness and competence; ability to work in a diverse environment and serve constituents from a wide range of backgrounds.
• Experience and comfort with content management systems, online career platforms, and digital communication.
• Familiarity with student identity development theories, career development theories, and racial/cultural/gender identity development theories. Willingness to learn these skills.
• Knowledge of trends, issues, and opportunities in career development.
