Details:Mission and objectives:The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa is responsible for assisting the Secretary-General in coordinating, integrating and aligning United Nations action on the interlinkages between peace, security, human rights and development in Africa, enhancing international support for Africa’s development and security and facilitating intergovernmental deliberations on Africa at the global level, in particular those relating to the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), which was recently transformed into the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD.Context:OSAA is dedicated to improving its business processes to better serve its mission. As part of this effort, OSAA is seeking a motivated online volunteer to assist in documenting its business reform process. This role involves conducting desk research and contributing to a draft report, which will serve as a case study for other UN offices. The volunteer will gain valuable experience in organizational reform and documentation, while directly contributing to projects that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of UN operations.Task type:AdministrationTask description:Assist in documenting the OSAA business reform process to serve as a case study for other UN offices. This includes conducting desk research and contributing to a draft report.
The Online Volunteer tasks are as follows:1. Conduct Desk Research (approximately 20-30 documents and processes)
a. Gather information on OSAA’s business reform process reviewing internal documents, such as SOPs, PowerPoints, and meeting notes.
b. Review relevant documents, such as evaluation reports, and case studies.
c. Identify key elements and best practices from the reform process.2. Draft Report Contribution (approximately 15 to 20 pages)
a. Organize collected data and insights.
b. Draft sections of the report detailing the reform process.
c. Highlight lessons learned and recommendations for other UN offices.3. Collaboration and Communication
a. Coordinate with OSAA team members and other stakeholders (IPMR team, Controller’s Office).
b. Participate in virtual meetings and discussions.
c. Provide regular updates on progress and findings.4. Editing and Review
a. Assist in editing and refining the draft report.
b. Ensure clarity, coherence, and accuracy of the content.
c. Incorporate feedback from team members and supervisors.Requirements:Demonstrated interest and/or experience in conducting desk research and drafting reports. Familiarity with operations and business processes. Basic understanding of organizational reform, excellent research and communication skills, and strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail are required.Work Hours: 1 – 5 hours per week
