Our mission is to provide excellent neuro-psychological assessments for patients, and consultancy to Neurology/Neuro-surgery colleagues, which is compassionate, inclusive and committed.Are you a compassionate, enthusiastic and committed Clinical/Neuro- Psychologist who would like to join our friendly service to help develop Neuropsychology services within a very large and well-esteemed Neuroscience Centre in Birmingham.We have a unique opportunity for a Consultant Clinical/Neuro- Psychologist to join our Clinical Neuropsychology service based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB).The successful applicant will have responsibility for leading and developing Neuropsychology services for patients affected by ‘Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI),’ alongside inputting to the ‘Epilepsy Surgery Programme’ and other Neurology/Neuro-surgery sub-specialties.You will be joining a small, friendly and research-active department that enjoys close links to the University of Birmingham and their Clinical Psychology Doctorate Course.You will be a valued colleague in our Clinical Neuropsychology service at Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.If you thrive on challenge, creativity and a dynamic and supportive work environment, in which Neuro-psychological assessment/formulation is highly valued in the wider multi-disciplinary teams, along with the opportunity to shape the future of the service, this is the job for you.Main duties of the jobThis role will involve responsibility to lead and develop a range of inpatient and outpatient TBI Neuropsychology services, alongside the other Consultant Clinical Psychologist and ‘Lead for Neuropsychology.’The role will involve providing evidence-based/informed inpatient and outpatient Neuropsychology Assessments, contributing to TBI ward-rounds, MDT meetings and TBI Clinics (including a ‘Sports Concussion Clinic’). The role will also involve contributing to pre-, peri- and post-surgical assessments for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy who are being assessed for Neurosurgery.There are significant opportunities within QEHB to develop and expand the Neuropsychology services for additional Neurology/Neuro-surgery sub-specialties and the support of the successful applicant pursuing these opportunities will be greatly valued by the ‘Lead for Clinical Neuropsychology.’With close links to local universities, our department prides itself in a rich history of cutting-edge Neuropsychology research and as a department we have contributed to many high impact peer-reviewed journal article publications. • Assessed considerable experience of working as a qualified applied psychologist/clinical neuropsychologist including in the designated function with which this post is concerned.
• Experience of the professional management of registered and pre-registration trainee psychologists, Psychology Assistants, graduate and undergraduate students and other grades of staff within a psychology service.

Desirable

• Formal post qualification experience in relevant management skills.
• Experience of representing the profession in local policy forums.
• Experience of working within a multicultural framework.

Training and QualificationsEssential

• Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in clinical psychology (the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996)
• Registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist

Desirable

• BPS Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN) or MSc/ PGDip in Clinical Neuropsychology with desire to complete QiCN.

Skills/KnowledgeEssential

• Skills in the use of highly complex methods of psychological assessment commensurate with doctoral level training, including specialist clinical interviewing, behavioural observation, complex psychometric testing, and specialist neuropsychological testing.
• Advanced skills, commensurate with doctoral level training and post qualification training and experience, in the formulation of highly complex problems from a psychological perspective and in the implementation of highly specialist psychological therapies, interventions and management techniques that are appropriate for use with highly complex presenting problems. Able to deliver established/ evidenced based psychological therapy to fidelity.
• Skills in providing consultation and advice from a psychological perspective to members of other professional and non-professional groups.

• Highly developed and advanced knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific ‘difficult to treat’ groups (e.g. personality disorder, challenging behaviour, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).
• Advanced level knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.
