Oxfam International is looking for an outstanding Inclusive Peace and Security Policy Advisor for the New York Office.

The New York Office works to represent Oxfam at the UN Headquarters, engaging in humanitarian advocacy and influencing on policies and practices that reduce poverty and inequality – targeting the UN Security Council (UNSC) the UN General Assembly, the UN Agencies, and the UN Secretariat (including the office of the Secretary General).

Thepost holder will lead several aspects of Oxfam’s advocacy work in NY on inclusive peace and security, particularly Women, Peace and Security (WPS), and the broader issues of peacebuilding and reconstruction. S/he will advocate for effective implementation of commitments made under relevant UNSC resolutions, with an emphasis on protection and meaningful participation of women in peacebuilding and reconstruction efforts – while strengthening research and policy analysis and Oxfam’s understanding of and ability to influence key UN humanitarian and conflict policies and decision-making processes.

Who we’re looking for

A person with excellent knowledge of the UN system, policy making process and have extensive experience in implementing the Women, Peace and Security agenda, including resolution 1325, as well Knowledge and track record in influencing on peacebuilding policies, gender justice and women’s rights.

They should have effective negotiation abilities and informal leadership skills in a multi-stakeholder, networked environment, conceptual and analytical skills, ability to think strategically and creatively towards achieving results and good project management skills. The Policy Advisor will have demonstrated experience in working in complex alliances across various cultural contexts and coordinating complex processes; good English writing and speaking skills and ability to communicate clearly are essential and ability to work cooperatively in a cross-cultural setting, with credibility, tact, and diplomacy.
