This internship is designed to be in-person and full-time (35 hours) but can be adjusted based on request by the successful candidateExpected duration2-6 monthsDuties and ResponsibilitiesThe Office of Human Resources (OHR) is seeking passionate young interns who are innovative doers and thinkers and interested in making a difference for a better world. OHR promotes a dynamic, adaptable, and mobile workforce with the highest standards of competence and integrity, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of the Organization’s mandates. These internships are within the Global Strategy and Policy Division (GSPD) of OHR, part of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy, and Compliance (DMSPC). GSPD serves as the central authority on all human resources management matters, ensuring the Organization has the strategies, policies, frameworks, and tools necessary to attract, develop, and retain a talented and diverse global workforce. The division fosters a culture of engagement, leadership, and results by providing strategic and thought leadership, policy guidance, and innovative solutions for managing talent end-to-end. This includes strategic workforce planning, talent acquisition, staff development, performance management, mobility, and appropriate duty of care for all Secretariat staff. The internship is for a minimum of two months with a possibility for extension to no longer than six months, depending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office where they are assigned. Examples of daily tasks include: • Provide substantive and administrative support to the office. • Assist in the development of training materials and organizing briefings and training sessions. • Provide administrative support to on-going projects and reform when requested. • Assist in collecting data for General Assembly and Office of Internal Oversight Services reports, and budgetary submissions as required. • Assist in any other duties required by the Chief of the Office. • Conducts research on a diverse range of issues using multiple sources; selects relevant material, analyzes information, and presents findings for internal review. • Assists in preparing background documentation, drafting correspondence/communications, reports, and presentations. • Participates in meetings, conferences, and seminars and serves as secretary, as necessary (takes notes, draft summary reports, minutes, or assessment reports for presentation to the head of the Section), monitors follow-up actions, etc. • Reviews project comments/evaluations and progress reports, summarizes findings and lessons learned. • Develops visual solutions derived from multiple data sources to enable insight and decision making at various levels. • Identifies, research, drafts and edits content (text, photos, documents and multimedia) for online publication (website and social media) in line with UN media guidelines. • Identifies and contacts talent communities, though cold calling, email campaigns and social media posts to advertise open and future job opportunities for the UN. • Performs other activities and special projects as assigned.Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.Additional InformationThis internship is for a minimum 2 and maximum of 6 months and designed to be in-person and full-time (35 hours per week).
