We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.Description & ScopeJoin our team at the Cambridge Research, working on novel solutions for deep geothermal energy extraction. In this internship, you will work on advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to explore the details of fluid flow and heat transfer processes subsurface.Your work will contribute to research aimed at improving system components to optimise overall performance, and enhancing simplified models that capture the essential physics for large-scale simulations and early design assessments, maintaining accuracy while reducing computational requirements.Deliverables

  • Conduct and validate CFD simulations to analyse heat transfer and fluid dynamics in geothermal applications
  • Improve simplified models to enable more accurate large-scale simulations
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss project progress and share findings
  • Prepare technical reports and present your results to peers and stakeholders

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Master Degree – (Penultimate or Final year) in Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines in maths, engineering or physical sciences or a related discipline
  • Strong foundation in Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer
  • Prior research experience with CFD

Preferred Skills:

  • CFD Software Proficiency (ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, Multiphysics or OpenFOAM)
  • Experience in turbulent heat transfer in closed flows
  • Programming skills in at least one of the following: Python, MATLAB or C++
