SBTi Measurement and Verification Manager – InterimLocation: Germany, UK and USAJob Purpose and Background:
The SBTi has enabled thousands of companies and financial institutions (FIs) to set climate
targets and have these targets validated in line with science. It is now essential that these
companies are held accountable for delivering on their targets.
By increasing the transparency of private sector climate action through improved
measurement and reporting requirements, the SBTi will bring further transparency to the
progress made towards science-based targets. To enable assessment of achievement of
targets, the SBTi will develop requirements related to target delivery that will define the
allowable approaches companies can take to achieve decarbonization and what constitutes
alignment towards net-zero transformation. The MRV Manager is responsible for
incorporating these topics into revisions of the Corporate Net-Zero Standard, engaging
internally and with external experts to consult on these topics. You will sit in the Corporate
Standards Team but work in close collaboration with colleagues in the Research Team.

  • Integration of disclosure requirements for companies to enable transparent tracking

of target progress and assessment of impact into the Corporate Net-Zero Standard.

  • Incorporation of a continuous improvement mechanism into the Corporate Net-Zero

Standard to ensure accountability for progress towards net-zero.

  • Alignment with and integration of the wider landscape of regulations, standards and

disclosure frameworks for corporate climate into SBTi’s Measurement & Reporting

ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on
accelerating companies worldwide to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero
emissions before 2050.
The SBTi defines and promotes best practices in science-based target setting, offersresources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and
approves companies’ targets.

The role sits within the Technical Department that leads the development and maintenance
of the key resources within the initiative to enable the adoption of climate targets in line with
the best-available science and following best-practice for standard-setting organizations.
The Standards Team is a key pillar of the Technical Department responsible for the
development and maintenance of cross-sector standards and guidance. The Standards
Team act as “product owners” for the key cross-sector standards, including coordination
across different teams to ensure their successful integration and implementation.Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivery of outputs comprising Measurement & Reporting approach and integration

of criteria, recommendations and guidance into the Corporate Net-Zero Standard.

  • Collaborating with the Research Team to integrate research findings into the

standards related to Measurement & Reporting and assessment of target
achievement.

  • Supporting an inclusive and balanced stakeholder process to ensure deliverables are

aligned with climate science and strike the right balance of credibility and practicality,
including internal actors, advisory groups to the SBTi, and external stakeholders.

  • Responsible for the integration of consultation feedback into draft standards related

measurement, reporting and target delivery

  • Collaborating with the Technology Team to ensure external disclosure of required

elements are represented within the SBTi’s target dashboard

  • Contribute to communications material related to the project, such as presentations,

case studies, blog posts and other communication documents as needed.Essential skills and experience needed:

  • 6 years of experience in the below described areas, with independent technical

leadership and advanced technical skills.

  • Deep experience in science-based targets, greenhouse gas accounting in line with

the GHG Protocol, and corporate climate strategy

  • Strong understanding of the drivers for and practical challenges of implementing

climate action strategies across businesses’ operations and value chains.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a mostly virtual environment
  • Highly organized, fast learner and strong attention to detail.
  • Results oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a culturally and

geographically diverse and constantly evolving environment.

  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and able to work independently in an international

and multicultural remote work environment.Desirable criteria:

  • Experience in sustainability standard-setting processes.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to make complex

The salary for this role will depend on location and experience level. This is a full-time,
fixed-term interim role until January 2026. There is a possibility of extending the position due to the growth or offering another position to the candidate after that.
