Job Title: Specialist Advisory Teacher
Starting Salary: £31,350 to £47,839 pa pro rata – Hertfordshire locally agreed Main Pay Range and Upper Pay Range plus SEN allowance
Hours: 26 hours (4 days) – Term Time Only

Directorate: Childrens ServicesWould you like an opportunity to support Hertfordshire delivering better outcomes for children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?Integrated Services for Learning is a multi-disciplinary service comprising of SEND Specialist Advice and Support services, Access & Inclusion Services, Educational Psychologists and Statutory services.Within the service, there is a vacancy for a Specialist Advisory Teacher post in the Speech, Language, Communication and Autism specialism.About the roleThe post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support schools in embedding approaches to improve access to education for children and young people, as well as supporting the Local Authority processes as required under the direction of the Specialism Lead/Lead Teacher by attending various panels, meetings and reviews on behalf of the service.As part of Integrated Services for Learning (ISL) the post holder will work collaboratively with the Delivering Special Provision Locally (DSPL) Partnerships and other colleagues both within and outside ISL to promote early intervention, assessment and excellent inclusive practice.About the teamA key function of ISL SEND Specialist Advice and Support Services (SENDSAS) is to ensure that the educational and developmental progress of children and young people (0-25), with a range of SEND, is met in line with the Hertfordshire Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and Children’s Services strategic objectives.
Advisory Teachers deliver this through:

  • Carrying a caseload offering effective high-quality advice and support to children, young people, their families and settings.
  • Modelling interventions, teaching approaches and strategies for staff in schools/settings and for parents/carers.
  • Supporting staff to identify long and short-term targets for children and young people and facilitate effective planning to address these
  • Delivering training to support schools/settings in implementing strategies to improve provision for children and young people with speech, language, communication and autism needs

About youEssential:

  • Minimum five years relevant and successful teaching experience.
  • Recent classroom experience, practice knowledge for the specialism area or be employed within an advisory service.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of best practice in relation to meeting the needs of children and young people (0-25) with SEND in area of specialism.
  • Educated to degree level and hold Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes

Desirable:

  • Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of relevant high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Ability to model excellent practice and lead by example.
