OverviewOur Real Property and Workplace Services department has an opportunity for a Manager to lead their Building Service teams. As Manager, Building Services, you’ll provide leadership to staff, contractors, consultants, and technical resources. Your leadership will inspire progressive thinking and innovative solutions that deliver strategic management of building services including janitorial and property management operations.How you’ll make a difference: You’ll help create a sustainable workplace that allows people to thrive.Where you’ll workIn this role, you’ll work primarily onsite at the Richmond office with flexible hours. There are two cleaning teams consisting of day staff and evening staff. It is expected that this position will work occasionally later in the evening to support the evening cleaning staff.What you’ll do

  • Act as an expert resource to develop and communicate strategic programs and tactical projects that optimize sustainable janitorial and property management operations to support the functional physical spaces for the effective delivery of services.
  • Manage building services including provincial area office janitorial, waste management, confidential paper shredding, pest control, and other services on corporate properties.
  • Manage and direct janitorial service teams comprised of coordinators, cleaners, and contract services for the effective management of facility operations.
  • Manage contractors and oversees compliance and control of janitorial and property management activities, planning ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging ones; ensure quality operations practices, safety procedures and the use of proper techniques are implemented to deliver expected results.
  • Develop and execute janitorial and property management programs and standards dedicated to the delivery of effective services and contractor oversight and control; implement assignments and procedures including new methods, equipment, and materials selection; implement preventative maintenance programs for equipment and pest management; ensure environmental management, green cleaning techniques and best practices are implemented.
  • Strategically evaluate priorities, determines scope and align activities within work streams; consider team resourcing levels and assigns resources to the project teams or operational activities based on expert knowledge and project efficiency

  • Make decisions, resolve issues, and determine a course of action
  • Apply strong organizational and time management skills to handle a high work volume

Your background and experience

  • A post-secondary degree and/or a professional designation in janitorial and property operations management or facilities management
  • A minimum of five years of recent work experience in a similar role in addition to experience managing staff and contractors
  • Travel throughout the province will be required
  • A valid BC’s driver’s license is required
