Job description
We are looking for a Data Analyst to join our expanding FP&A team in Oakville, Ontario. This is a remote, full-time role. The analyst will work closely with the Manager of FP&A and the VP of Finance to develop key metrics reporting systems. They will provide centralized support across all operations, collaborating with business units, branches, and senior management. The goal is to understand business challenges and leverage knowledge of key drivers to establish insightful financial analysis and reporting structures.Responsibilities:
- Oversees and participates in daily, weekly, and monthly financial P&L and ad hoc branch reporting processes, performing various financial analyses and providing commentaries.
- Develops and implements reporting templates, including three-month rolling forecasts, annual budgets, overhead expenses, capital plans, daily bank reporting, cash advance activities, and weekly/monthly borrowing base calculations to support journal entries, ensuring compliance with legal and corporate standards and meeting deadlines.
- Provides analytical support, understanding the financial and accounting impact of business processes, and evaluates current and future business activities.
- Conducts and oversees financial analyses, projects, and processes, participating in complex and comprehensive financial investigations.
- Recommends process and control reporting rules, establishing clear standards, protocols, and direction for internal and external partners; collaborates with auditors and others to maintain financial integrity and enhance understanding of financial applications, controls, and standards.
- Creates new and supplementary reporting methods for management to facilitate proactive problem-solving.
- Prepares monthly financial analysis and operations reports for management.
- Maintains and documents branch reporting rules to ensure consistency and accuracy across all branches, acting as the guardian of Management Accounting rules.
- Prepares revenue and cost accruals for month-end.
- Participates in new technology implementations.
- Handles ad hoc reports and projects.
MUST HAVE:
- Proficient in creating reports using Power BI with strong data analytics experience in SQL and Python.
- Skilled in SQL operations, including joins, sub-queries, tracing, and performance tuning.
- Expert in utilizing Power BI and PowerPoint to deliver compelling presentations and enhance stakeholder engagement.
- Adaptive in utilizing AI technologies for data project solutions.
- Proficient in Python, R, SAS, and SQL.
- Experienced in SQL, VBA, data mining, data analysis, and data processing.
- Knowledgeable in linear regression, multivariate analysis, regression models, classification models, and hypothesis testing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Fabric, Tableau, and Power BI.
- Experienced with machine learning algorithms, regression, and classification.
- Skilled in cloud computing, big data analytics, Azure Databricks, and Azure Virtual Machines.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess:
- 2-3 years of experience in an accounting, financial analysis, or business analysis role, preferably in a medium to large sized company environment
- Skill in large data analysis and interpretation in database management.
- Displays a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail while performing financial base research and implementations.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software (Netsuite), excel, PowerBi and financial planning software (Anaplan).
- Experience in gathering data, compiling the proper information, and preparing financial reports.
- Able to successfully perform moderate to complex account reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge of budgets and internal controls.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be a team player.
- Effectively apply organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload, to problem solve, and to adapt to frequent interruptions and change.
- Transportation industry experience preferred.
Education
- Post-secondary education in Business, Accounting or Finance
- Professional Accounting Designation or Finalist
- CPA or MBA preferred.
