It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP) It provides Services to partners’ programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.Background Information – Project Specific:Our UN partner has requested the assistance of UNOPS in providing various ICT services. UNOPS has entered into a service-oriented agreement with the UN ICT partner to deliver support in various ICT domains. The objective of this function is to support our partner in executing the activities outlined in this TOR.The ICT Senior Officer – Geospatial Information Systems (Image Analyst) will carry out his/her tasks at New York, USAThe incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager or designated pe…Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager or designated person, the incumbent works under the guidance Chief Geospatial Information Section or appointed person, with delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible to perform following tasks:Summary of Key Functions:

  • Data Functions
  • GIS Functions

1. Data Functions: :

  • Perform raster data processing;
  • Perform vector data edition;
  • Maintain geodatabase and catalogue of imagery post-processed derivative works.

2. GIS Functions:

  • Perform analysis based on a variety of sources such as satellite imagery, aerial photograph, geospatial information, internal memos and reports, open source intelligence and others;
  • Perform day-to-day liaison work with clients to understand and articulate short and medium term requirements;
  • Develop innovative geospatial products and visuals to convey the results of the analysis;
  • Conduct peer-review and quality control of GIS and imagery products prepared by other colleagues.

It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards.   • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in Cartography, Geography, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), or related fields to the post description with two (2) years of relevant experience is required.
  • A first level university degree (undergraduate, Bachelor, or equivalent), with four (4) years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work ExperienceRequired:

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in GIS, Remote Sensing, Imagery analysis, geospatial analysis or related fields.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with ArcGIS Desktop (v10), QGIS ERDAS Imagine, relational databases (MS SQL Server).
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working in a GIS environment for digital cartography.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in statistical analysis using enterprise office software (e.g. MS excel, MS Access)

Desirable (the following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply)

  • Python scripting, preferably in ARCGIS and/or QGIS environment.
  • Infographic and Graphics experience using enterprise graphics software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Basic graphics software skills (e.g Adobe Suite) to prepare final touches of the digital cartography prepared in a GIS environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Language Requirements:

  • For this job opening, fluency in English (speak, write, read) is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
